A New Bezos Academy Breaks Ground Near Southern Dallas Community

Created by Amazon Founder Jeff Bezos, Bezos Academy is building a network of tuition-free, Montessori-inspired preschools in underserved communities in the U.S. The school near the new Ridge at Lancaster community will be the second to land in the city. The preschools offer year-round programming, five days a week, for children ages 3-5 years.

Southern Dallas small business owners are about to get a new space to connect, collaborate, and help grow their companies.
Comerica Bank is transforming the first floor of its R.L. Thornton location into Comerica BusinessHQ—an 8,000-SF collaborative space offering a mix of coworking spaces, incubation fellowships, and technical assistance. The center will address three big needs: "capital, cultivation, and connectivity."

Dallas-based financial services giant Comerica Bank has named Trent Sampson, Jerry Collazo, and Adriana Najera to its newly formed South Dallas Business Banking Team that is led by Group Manager Derric Hicks.

The 180-foot Ryan Tower stands at the heart of the UNT Dallas campus and can be seen for miles in every direction. Funded by a $2 million gift from UNT benefactors Amanda and G. Brint Ryan, the tower is meant to serve as "an icon of the university, a symbol for higher learning, and a prominent symbol of the community it serves."
"For me, it symbolizes the heights our students and our future students will attain," UNT Dallas President said at the tower's ribbon-cutting.

Onu Ventures' residential and retail development at the intersection of I-20 and I-45 will include a grocery store and amenities centered around green space to create community.
The Onu Ventures project adds to other developments looking to build in the southern part of the city. Last month, Hoque Global announced its 270-acre University Hills development located next to the University of North Texas at Dallas campus.

The study by a team of SMU civil engineering researchers was supported by a five-year, $584,000 National Science Foundation grant. The team hopes that their study will lead to equitable improvements in the identified neighborhoods—with better groceries, internet access, noise walls, crosswalks, hospital access, bike trails, and more.
