This Privacy Policy describes how Dallas Next LLC (“Dallas Next,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) collects, uses, and protects information in connection with Dallas Innovates (“DI” or the “Site”), available at dallasinnovates.com.
We are a small editorial publication. We do not sell products, we do not charge for our newsletter, and we do not sell or share your personal information with anyone for marketing purposes. This Policy describes, in plain language, what information we do collect in order to operate.
If you sign up for our free newsletter, send us a tip or a question, or contact us through the Site, you provide us with information such as your name, email address, and any other details you choose to include in your message. If you contact us about an advertising opportunity or a partnership, you may provide additional contact details such as a phone number or company affiliation.
Like virtually all modern websites, our Site collects certain technical information from visitors, including IP address, browser type, operating system, the pages you view, the time and date of your visit, the referring website, and similar diagnostic information. We use this information to keep the Site running well and to understand in aggregate which articles and sections readers find useful. We do not attempt to identify individual readers from this data.
We use the information we collect to send our free newsletter to readers who have signed up to receive it; to respond to messages, tips, questions, and inquiries you send us; to run the Site; to understand in aggregate how readers use the Site, including which articles are most read; and to provide aggregate metrics such as pageviews and clicks to our advertisers and sponsors.
We do not use your information for ad targeting or to sell or transfer it to other businesses.
Some specifics about what Dallas Innovates does not do:
- We do not sell personal information—not for money, and not for any other consideration.
- We do not share your personal information with third parties for their own marketing purposes. We do not share our newsletter list with advertisers, sponsors, or other parties for their marketing use.
- We do not run programmatic or behaviorally-targeted advertising on the Site. The advertisements you see on the Site are served from our own servers, not through third-party ad networks. The metrics we provide our advertisers and sponsors are aggregate pageviews and clicks — not data about individual readers.
- We label sponsored content. When content on the Site is paid for or supported by a sponsor, we identify it as such.
To run the Site and our newsletter, we rely on a small set of common service providers, including:
- Google Analytics and Google Tag Manager, to understand how readers use the Site in aggregate. You can opt out of Google Analytics by installing Google’s opt-out browser add-on at google.com/dlpage/gaoptout.
- Mailchimp (Intuit Mailchimp), to deliver our newsletter and to measure basic engagement, such as opens and clicks.
- Pagely, our website hosting provider.
- Cloudflare, which provides content delivery, security, and basic site analytics.
- AdRotate Pro, which we use to manage and serve advertisements on the Site and to measure basic performance such as impressions and clicks.
- Algolia, which provides search functionality on the Site and may process search queries to return results.
- Wufoo, which we use to collect and manage information submitted through forms on the Site.
- Bitly, which we use to manage and track links and basic click activity.
- Gravatar, which provides author profile images.
- AddToAny, which provides our social media share buttons.
These companies handle information on our behalf as part of providing their services and are subject to their own privacy policies and contractual obligations.
The Site uses cookies and similar technologies to operate properly, to remember your preferences, and to help us understand in aggregate how readers use the Site. Some cookies are essential for the Site to function; others are optional. You can manage cookies through your browser’s settings, including blocking or deleting them. Doing so may affect how some parts of the Site work.
We may engage trusted service providers, contractors, or partners to assist in operating Dallas Innovates, including managing technical systems such as analytics, email distribution, and content management platforms.
These parties are granted access only as necessary to perform their functions on our behalf and are required to use information solely for the purpose of operating the Site and in accordance with current Dallas Innovates practices. They may not use such information for their own independent marketing, outreach, or commercial purposes.
Such access does not constitute ownership of user data or editorial control.
Our newsletter is free. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link at the bottom of any newsletter we send. If you would prefer not to receive our newsletter, you can simply not sign up—the Site is freely available to read either way.
The Site is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you are under 13, please do not submit any personal information to us. If we become aware that we have collected such information, we will delete it promptly.
We do not sell personal information or use it for targeted advertising.
Depending on where you live, you may have certain rights regarding personal information we hold about you under applicable privacy laws, including in Texas and California. We handle requests in accordance with applicable law.
The Site contains links to other websites that we do not operate, including the websites of our advertisers, the businesses and people we cover, and other resources. When you follow those links—including by clicking an advertisement—you will be taken to those websites, which have their own privacy practices. We encourage you to review their policies before providing them with personal information.
If production or operational responsibility for Dallas Innovates transitions to another entity, information we hold—including the newsletter subscriber list and analytics data—may be transferred or made accessible to that entity solely to allow continuity of the publication. Subscribers will retain the right to unsubscribe at any time. Upon such transition, that entity will assume responsibility for data practices and will implement its own privacy policy governing the Site.
We may update this Policy from time to time. When we do, we will post the revised version on this page.
