Mark Cuban’s Cost Plus Drug Co. Partners with Emsana RX to Help Take on Big Pharma

In January, the Mark Cuban Cost Plus Drug Company launched its online pharmacy directly to consumers, aiming to "bypass middlemen and outrageous markups." In October, it partnered with its first U.S. health plan, Capital Blue Cross. Now, by partnering with EmsanaRx, MCCPDC has made its first move into the self-insured employer drug market.
Mark Cuban says EmsanaRx's "technological capabilities to customize to the needs of self-funded employers" will help his startup "bring lower cost medicines to a wider swath of the American public."

Online giant Amazon announced that it is offering a new service called Amazon Clinic that provides virtual "message-based" healthcare for more than 20 minor health conditions, adding another affordable healthcare option for more than 8.5 million people in North Texas.
Along with the company's Amazon Pharmacy service, Amazon Clinic joins Mark Cuban's Cost Plus Drug Company as a new, affordable healthcare option for North Texans.

That's just one insight the billionaire shared in a fireside chat with Backstage Capital founder Arlan Hamilton at the Venture Dallas conference last week. “There's always going to be somebody smarter, there's always going to be somebody faster, better," Cuban added. "I just try to work a little harder.”

From a black-tie kickoff on January 19 to a parade, a music festival, a storytelling summit, and more, the Deep Ellum neighborhood just east of downtown Dallas is gearing up for a 2023 to remember. Founded in 2020, Dallas-based Sonara Health has a big mission: "We want to end the opioid epidemic and save lives." To help tackle it, Sonara secured a patent last month for a take-home methadone monitoring system. With the new funding and earlier support from backers including Mark Cuban, the startup has raised $5M to date.
