CBRE Group To Acquire NYC-Based Coworking Company Industrious, Valuing It at $800M

Dallas-based CBRE had previously invested in Industrious—a flexible workspace provider with more than 200 units across over 65 cities—through a roughly 40% equity interest and a $100 million convertible note. CBRE said it will acquire the remaining equity stake in Industrious for around $400 million.

A recent survey by CoworkingCafe, a nationwide coworking space search website, shows just how important coworking is in North Texas. In Dallas alone, remote workers nearly quadrupled from 2019 to 2021, and many of them have found spots among the city's 98 coworking spaces. That's helped Dallas-Fort rank No. 5 in the U.S. among cities with the most coworking locations.

Clark was a recent guest on Keurig's "Café Culture" podcast, which explored ideas about creating café culture from the coworking category.
In the podcast, Clark talks about how he founded Common Desk; how he loves it when people walk in off the street mistaking the company's locations for a bar; and how he first discovered the "magic" of having "serendipitous interactions" while coworking.
But two topics jump out of the podcast: why it's important for introverts to be "prodded" into going back to the office, and why companies should look for "culture adds," not "culture fits."

‘The Future of the Office is Flex’: WorkSuites Makes its First Expansion Outside of Texas

Dallas-based WorkSuites is opening two new coworking facilities in the Atlanta area, added to the 21 locations it now operates in North Texas and metro Houston. Founder and CEO Flip Howard says more locations are coming in the Atlanta region, and WorkSuites is looking for locations in Phoenix, too.
“Everybody knows that the future of office is flex,” he told Dallas Innovates. “Every (location) that we've opened has filled up faster than they used to.”
