DDI Foundation's financial commitment follows $100,000 committed by Dallas architecture and design firm Corgan toward the innovative park’s construction, which already is underway.
The new park is designed to incorporate evolving technologies in the West End, and is the second of four new parks planned for the city's urban center.
At Supercomputing 2019, the Plano-based provider of data center solutions gave a look at the OTTO platform, which has the potential to help clients cut operational costs by 80 percent. It's a tenth the size of a traditional data center.
The companies will unveil conceptual designs for the new data centers—intended to be a tenth of the traditional sizing—in November to show off the "groundbreaking technology."
Humphreys and Partners Architects introduced two skyport concepts named "Volary." The downtown design is a seven-story parking garage retrofit with a facade of acoustic panels and kinetic shingles that react to the environment.
Because of their unique value on the tax rolls, the stringent requirements to build them, and the technology needed to equip them, data centers have created a class of their own in real estate.
In a series of architecture plans, renderings, and ideas, HPA offered its vision for the design of the UberAIR skyport platform that will be the launch and landing sites for the air taxi service.
The Dallas architecture firm is one of several that will offer designs for the skyports that could be the landing bases for the aircraft, which Uber said will fly, possibly as early as 2020.
With a set of technological tools it developed including wayfinder research glasses, Corgan is hoping to create airport designs that are more relaxing for passengers.
