UNT HSC at Fort Worth Launches ‘One Pill Kills’ Anti-Fentanyl Campaign

Fentanyl, a synthetic opioid that’s considered far more addictive than heroin, is now the leading cause of death for Americans ages 18 to 49. Experts say that Fentanyl can be fatal even if just a tiny amount—so small it could fit on a pencil eraser—is ingested.

The HSC said the 20-hour, self-paced course, students learn about the core concepts of lifestyle medicine: a whole-food, plant-based diet; regular physical activity; restorative sleep; stress management; avoidance of risky substances; and positive social connection to achieve optimal health and prevent chronic disease.

Through the program, they can apply for federal funds via mechanisms known as the Small Business Innovation Research and Small Business Technology Transfer programs, collectively known as America’s Seed Fund.

The UNT Health Science Center at Fort Worth has received a $2 million grant from Tarrant County to help emerging tech startups successfully apply for federal Small Business Innovation Research funding.
"It’s about creating entrepreneurial excellence in Tarrant County,” says Tarrant County Commissioner Roy Brooks. “This puts us at the forefront of innovation in bringing tech industries to Tarrant County as an economic development tool.”

Techstars’ Fort Worth Program Puts Out Last Call for Applicants Ahead of Fall Accelerator

The Techstars Physical Health accelerator has an application deadline of May 11 for its 13-week program this fall, where 10 companies will be eligible to receive up to $120,000 in seed funding capital from the University of North Texas Health Science Center at Fort Worth and Goff Capital, in addition to mentorship and programming.

The project will kick off with a four-story, approximately 100,000-square-foot medical education building, which TCU says will serve as an “academic hub” for around 240 students and hundreds of faculty and staff members, after its planned completion in 2024.
At the new campus, TCU School of Medicine's innovative curriculum will continue—with students focused on major drivers of medicine's future, including AI, genomics, and advanced monitoring technology.
