The annual event benefiting the Dallas-based impact education nonprofit will honor creative visionaries and community leaders for their commitment to BIG ideas and their Big Thought Impact. The BIG NIGHT will be held March 4 at The Factory in Deep Ellum.
Like all the others, the Deep Ellum location offers interactive, digital games played by groups in "fun smart rooms." As you can see from the goggle-less players above, it's not about AR or virtual reality. Instead, the "gameboxes" feature a range of tech including projection mapping, touch screens using the company's patented Lidar, 3D motion tracking, and surround sound.
From a black-tie kickoff on January 19 to a parade, a music festival, a storytelling summit, and more, the Deep Ellum neighborhood just east of downtown Dallas is gearing up for a 2023 to remember. Known as the "birthplace of the blues in Texas," the district buzzes with live music, street art, galleries, restaurants, clubs, and culturally creative retail.
The sesquicentennial will bring something new: the opening of the Deep Ellum Community Cultural Center. It's just one way 2023 will "shape the neighborhood’s future as a continued mecca for creatives, entrepreneurs, and all comers," says a Deep Ellum Foundation leader.
Over 150 scientists across dozens of departments will be part of the elite National Institutes of Health-funded, university-wide interdisciplinary research center. Dallas' UT Southwestern Medical Center is the only institution in Texas to be selected for the NIH initiative.
UTSW wants to translate scientific discoveries into new therapeutic strategies for the prevention and treatment of obesity, which it describes as a chronic disease affecting more than 40% of the U.S. population, with medical costs nearing $175 billion.
Forty years after founding the Mozzarella Company in Dallas, Paula Lambert is being honored with a Grand Dame Lifetime Achievement Award from Les Dames d'Escoffier International.
"It means the world to me literally, because it's an international award, and because I was selected by my peers," Lambert told Dallas Innovates. "My life is very rich because of the wonderful people I've met through our cheeses over the past 40 years."
Worldwide Express—a global logistics provider with nearly $5 billion in systemwide revenue—is making the HQ move following its June 2021 merger with GlobalTranz.
To mark its 30th anniversary this month, Worldwide is debuting as a primary sponsor in the NASCAR Cup Series with a race this week at Texas Motor Speedway.
The Deep Ellum Foundation has installed new streetlight pole banners showcasing the work of local Deep Ellum tattoo artists. Here's a gallery of the designs you'll see if you walk or drive through the neighborhood.
The Mark Cuban Cost Plus Drug Company is building an $11M, 22,000SF drug manufacturing plant in Dallas' Deep Ellum, aiming to "disrupt and disable big pharma." The startup plans to launch an online pharmacy selling 100 of the most commonly prescribed generic prescription drugs at a 15 percent markup plus a $3 dispensing fee.
"Our only goal is to push down the pricing of drugs for every American," the company pledges.
Event innovator J. Damany Daniel, founder of The Event Nerd, marries storytelling and technology to host accessible, unforgettable virtual events for both large and small companies.
“Creativity happens within constraints," says Daniel, who was recently appointed as the City of Dallas Cultural Affairs Commissioner for District 6. "Let's do more than make it work, let’s make it dope.”
The nonprofit is supporting three legislative measures on the federal level and one at the state level to get small business owners in Deep Ellum the immediate relief they need.
August Real Estate Co. selected Common Desk to reposition the historic Continental Gin Building for the future of office. Common Desk's team will touch all aspects of the building, from design to property management—Founder Nick Clark says it's going to be a "holistic offering the market has yet to see."
At 5.6 acres, the redesigned Carpenter Park will top nearby Klyde Warren Park in size by about a half acre when complete. Here’s an early look at the green space, which will connect Downtown with Deep Ellum and East Dallas for the first time in decades.
Common Desk announced late last year that it was opening its sixth location at Factory SixO3. Now, it's the coworking company's new headquarters, where it's moved with 49 employees.
