Dallas Is Pedaling Toward a New Citywide Bike Plan

The city of Dallas has a Bike Plan—but it was written in 2011. Now, after creating 67 miles of bike lanes across the city, Dallas is working on an updated bicycle master plan that lays out future bike and roadway improvement needs. “We want to build connected bicycle routes that help you safely get from your home to your work, school, parks, and other destinations,” the city said in a statement.

With New Center, UT Dallas Researchers Are Looking into the Molecular Causes of Pain
With a five-year, $11.3 million grant from the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke, researchers at UT Dallas' new Human Nociceptor and Spinal Cord Molecular Signature Center are digging into the causes of chronic pain and new ways to treat it. The center's leader, Dr. Ted Price, says the data generated "will fundamentally change the way that we think about pain and how we develop therapeutics."

Dunnu Devulapally has faced his own struggles with identity issues as a first-generation American as well as with substance abuse. Now he aims to help people facing these and other mental health-related issues by launching NRVE, a Dallas-based research nonprofit. Targeting younger generations, NRVE will focus on awareness in youth, support for veterans, support for homeless people, and research for substance abuse, domestic violence, and suicide prevention. With the information it collects, NRVE plans to become the “Google” for the mental health space, Devulapally told Dallas Innovates.

Lithium Ion Battery Recycling Production Line Opens in McKinney, Aims to Bolster Texas Supply Chain

McKinney's Wistron GreenTech has partnered with New Jersey-based Princeton NuEnergy on a lithium-Ion battery direct recycling pilot production line, which officially opened in McKinney today. PNE founder Dr. Yan Chao calls it a "powerful next step" in a vision for covering a nationwide close-loop recycling supply chain for the batteries.

The line will use PNE's patented process to recycle everything from phone batteries to full EV battery packs.
