Data scientist has been called the sexiest job of the 21st century, according to the Harvard Business Review, which noted last summer that the job is "more in demand than ever with employers and recruiters."
SMU's partnership with edX aims to give students more ways to pursue data science education in a way that makes the most sense for them.

Dallas ISD, Toyota, and SMU are partnering with the nonprofit Brother Bill’s Helping Hand on a food pantry and "learning garden" at the West Dallas STEM School. The effort is achieving more than offering healthy food to students and the local community, though, Rogers says.
"We want the staff to be able to use the space for hands-on experiences that they may not be able to accomplish in their classrooms," Rogers told the DMN. "We found a site that will give students the greatest opportunity to learn, as well as have the attributes needed to make it successful for years to come."

If you've driven past SMU's Gerald J. Ford Stadium on Mockingbird Lane, you may have noticed it's more or less horseshoe-shaped, with no end zone on the stadium's southern end.
Not for long. SMU broke ground today on a fancier home corral for the SMU Mustangs football team—putting the first digs on a $100 million, 192,500-square-foot end zone expansion.

SMU researchers aim to help address problems in the broad area of computational mathematics for sustainability—such as the management of the energy grid under intermittent renewable power. The research is aimed at developing new algorithms for materials design, bioengineering, and power grid applications.

The Biotech+ Hub at Pegasus Park in Dallas has been attracting more and more life science startups and university teams. Now a whole herd of Mustangs are about to stampede there. The SMU Institute for Computational Biosciences at Pegasus Park will have space at the 23-acre development. SMU researchers from a variety of disciplines will be focusing on bio-scientific discoveries, leveraging advanced computational algorithms and technologies.

The goal of SMU's Intelligent Systems and Bias Examination Lab (ISaBEL) is to quantify and minimize bias in artificial intelligence systems. It will explore how AI systems—like facial recognition algorithms—perform on a wide range of diverse people.
