The SMU Institute for Computational Biosciences at Pegasus Park will have space at the 23-acre development. SMU Research Team’s Tiny Sensor May Go to Mars—and Help Spaceships Land Safely
A team led by Volkan Ötügen, director of the SMU MicroSensor Laboratory, has developed a velocity-measuring "optical microresonator" that could help spaceships land safely on Mars and other planets. It's only 2 millimeters long—about the width of two sharp pencil points.

"Every gram of a device makes a huge difference in how much fuel I will have to have on a spacecraft and how many other items I can include as payload on that spacecraft," said Ötügen, whose research is funded by NASA.

AT&T, SMU Team Up to Turn Data Science Training into Employment Opportunities
Through a new collaboration that combines training with hand-on experience, Dallas-based AT&T aims to create a pipeline for SMU students to become its next employees through the new Data Science Scholars Program. One of its goals is creating more opportunities for women and underrepresented students. “Data science is a team sport,” said Mark Austin, AT&T’s VP for data science. who will help give the students challenges that are "bread-and-butter" to AT&T's own data science group.
