Paul Quinn College President Michael Sorrell has a vision for a global network of Urban Work Colleges that take aim at intergenerational poverty and "smash it." The first one opened in Plano in 2018.
Accepting a leadership award from the Collin County Business Alliance, Sorrell asked his staff and students to stand up. Why? Because "they're going to come see you and talk to you about hiring students to work at your companies," Sorrell told the audience filled with local business leaders. "And I want everyone to practice this with me: 'Yes.'

“Dallas is a city that booms north of I-30. Unfortunately, if you live south of I-30 all too often you only hear rumors of that boom,” Dr. Michael Sorrell, president of Paul Quinn College, said during Thursday's opening. “JPMorgan Chase is actively being a bridge builder. It is a repairer of the breach.”
The community branch plans to help Black and Latinx consumers open bank accounts and start businesses as part of Chase's $30 billion commitment to advance racial equity and provide economic opportunities to underserved communities.

Paul Quinn College Launches 36-Month Urban Scholars Degree Program for High-Achieving Students Who Want to Make a Difference

This fall, Dallas' Paul Quinn College will launch an accelerated Bachelor’s degree track that's designed to help students become "leaders and activists with a commitment to real change" in partnership with education innovator Minerva Project. The program, part of PQC's newly established Honors College, offers a double-major in Business and Public Policy that will focus on the economics and politics of societal transformation.
