Krista Nightengale is the managing director of the Better Block, an international, urban design nonprofit that educates, equips, and empowers communities and their leaders to reshape and reactivate built environments to promote the growth of healthy and vibrant neighborhoods. “What excites me most about DFW is its people,” Nightengale says. “They’re passionate, they’re dreamers, they’re realists, they’re hard-working, they’re go-getters. DFW has a great deal of potential, and the perfect mix of people to see it come to fruition. I can’t wait to see what we all do.”
After graduating from the University of Oklahoma, Nightengale started her career at D Magazine Partners. She worked on the company’s weekly newspapers before moving to the managing editor role at D Magazine. In-between managing deadlines and writing articles, she launched a leadership group called D Academy, which spearheaded the literacy nonprofit Big D Reads. She transitioned to community engagement, where she launched an intellectual series and worked on the Coalition for a New Dallas.
Nightengale was the founding editor of Dallas Innovates, a collaboration of the Dallas Regional Chamber and D Magazine Partners. Dallas Innovates is a media platform promoting Dallas-Fort Worth as a hub of innovation.
Nightengale has used her knowledge of Dallas and combined it with her background in storytelling, fundraising, community organizing, advocating, and project managing to help others fall in love with the city she adores.
