Smart Offers: Sabre Partners With Google on AI-Powered Personalized Travel Tech

It’s not just next-generation technology for the travel market—it’s 'third-generation,' Southlake-based Sabre says. Launching in early 2021, the AI product is being called the industry’s first smart, scalable retail engine designed to customize offerings for travelers.

Early next year, Southlake’s Sabre Corp. plans to launch a new product powered by AI technology and advanced machine learning to help the global travel industry target customers through personalized offers designed to increase sales.

Sabre is working with Google to develop its Sabre Smart Retail Engine, which relies on proprietary Sabre Travel AI Technology, according to a statement.

“We are excited to bring this intelligent retail engine to market as part of our offer management strategy, marking another step towards achieving our 2025 vision of delivering truly personalized travel,” Wade Jones, chief product officer for Sabre, said in a statement.

The Sabre Smart Retail Engine marries Sabre’s dynamic offer management and customer segmentation capabilities with Google’s well-known use of real-time shopping data for tailored merchandising. The idea is to pose “the right offer to the right traveler at the right time,” which increases traveler satisfaction and industry revenue.

“Our proprietary technology infuses the power of Sabre Travel AI to deliver, not next-, but a third-generation of technology to the travel marketplace,” Jones said. “By bringing together some of the brightest minds from Google and Sabre, we are accelerating the delivery of this smart and scalable retailing engine that we believe will enable customers to deliver personalized offers to their customers, better serving the needs of today’s traveler, while unlocking more value per passenger boarded.”

The tool will support an omni-channel approach that would allow airlines to use science-backed pricing to bundle offers for seats and baggage, as well as third-party hotels and car rentals.

The smart retail tool is just the first product under the Sabre Travel AI umbrella, which uses Google’s AI and automated machine learning tools to analyze and predict consumer behaviors. The goal of the partnership is to help airlines, agencies, hoteliers, and others in the travel industry turn customers into loyal fans with better experiences and intelligent pricing.

Ravi Simhambhatla, managing director, Digital Transformation Officer – Travel & Transportation of Google Cloud, said in a statement, “Today’s announcement, as well as Sabre Travel AI, are what we hope will be the first of many concepts generated from our partnership.”

Over time, Sabre plans to integrate AI solutions for fulfillment, pricing, revenue management and more, company officials said.
