Rolling In: PopStroke Opens This Week at Grandscape in The Colony

With Tiger Woods as a partner and investor and TaylorMade's putters and balls poised for action, PopStroke is no ordinary mini golf course. Forget about windmills and silly castles—the courses here look and feel more like real golf.

PopStroke’s slogan is Eat. Putt. Drink. And starting this Thursday, North Texans can try all three when the company’s new venue opens at Grandscape in The Colony, north of Dallas.

Offering “an innovative blend of mini golf, family entertainment, cutting-edge technology, and elevated casual dining,” PopStroke is far from the funky mini golf courses of your childhood. Instead of hulking windmills and castles poised over each hole, you’ll find two 18-hole “putting courses” that resemble actual golf greens. Undulating synthetic turf snakes through hilly berms, with faux white “sand traps” ready to dip your ball downward if you ball strays off the “fairway.”

PopStroke joins a wide range of retail, dining, and experiential venues at Grandscape. Besides its two 18-hole courses, it also offers open-air, climate-controlled dining, an outdoor beer garden, “lively bars” featuring craft beers and signature cocktails, a fully enclosed outdoor playground for kids, and oversized TV screens throughout the property for “the perfect sports bar setting.” A private event space overlooking both courses can host everything from birthday parties to corporate events.

While they putt, customers can track their scores from their mobile devices and order drinks for on-course delivery through the PopStroke app. You can also check out the venue’s jumbotron “leaderboard” to see how you stack up against other players.

Tiger Woods is a partner and investor

One reason PopStroke is “meticulously designed to replicate a traditional golf course” is Tiger Woods. Besides knowing his way around a putter, he’s been a partner and investor in PopStroke since 2019, a year after it was founded by Wall Street executive Greg Bartoli. Another partner is TaylorMade, whose putters and balls are poised to help customers navigate all 36 holes.

The Grandscape venue, which broke ground last August, is PopStroke’s 12th location and second in Texas (the Houston suburb of Katy snagged one in December 2022).

Ping pong, foosball, corn hole, and more

If tapping birdies isn’t your deal, PopStroke has other options. The venue also offers other outdoor games like ping pong, foosball, and corn hole. There’s even an ice cream parlor with “custom signature milkshakes” to keep your blood sugar pumping in case you want to play every game in sight

“The rapid growth of the Dallas metropolitan area coupled with its deep-rooted connection to golf made The Colony a perfect destination for our expansion into Texas,” PopStroke Founder and CEO Greg Bartoli said in a statement. “We can’t wait to welcome new guests to PopStroke and bring together people of all ages and skill levels through an unforgettable golf entertainment experience in the vibrant Dallas-Fort Worth area.”

Six additional PopStroke venues are under development and expected to open by the end of 2024, the company said.
