Southern Glazer’s Wine & Spirits Launches Incubator Academy Education Program for Diverse- and Women-Owned Brands

Southern Glazer's, headquartered in Miami with a base in Dallas, says that diverse-owned distillers and wine producers are underrepresented in the industry because they've historically lacked access to networks, representation, and industry tools and resources. Its academy's eLearning modules will give participants "valuable knowledge necessary for them to gain or expand distribution of their brands," the company said.

But before lettuce can get into salads across the U.S., it has to navigate coast-to-coast supply chain and distribution issues, says Eden Green Technology CEO Eddy Badrina, whose Cleburne-based ag-tech startup opened a new, two-acre vertical greenhouse in September as part of a planned $47 million vertical farm. Those issues have led to what Badrina calls "the 3,000-mile salad."

A portrait of Fort Worth's Opal Lee—known as the "Grandmother of Juneteenth" for her advocacy of the federal Juneteenth holiday—was unveiled Wednesday in the Texas Senate Chamber in Austin, where it will be permanently displayed. “Change somebody’s mind because minds can be changed,” 95-year-old Lee told reporters after the ceremony, according to NBC DFW. “If people have been taught to hate they can be taught to love, and it is up to you to do it.”

Southern Gateway Park Is ‘On Track’ to Break Ground on Amenities This Spring for Phase One Opening Next Year

Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson called it a "game-changing investment in the people and families of southern Dallas.” And there’s little doubt the Southern Gateway Park will be transformative once it opens as planned next year. “We are on track to break ground on the park’s amenities later this spring and open as scheduled in 2024,” a spokesperson for the Southern Gateway Public Green Foundation told WFAA this week, adding that $3 million in new funding has been secured since January 1 for the $172 million project.

Dallas ISD, Toyota, and SMU are partnering with the nonprofit Brother Bill’s Helping Hand on a food pantry and "learning garden" at the West Dallas STEM School. The effort is achieving more than offering healthy food to students and the local community, though, Rogers says. "We want the staff to be able to use the space for hands-on experiences that they may not be able to accomplish in their classrooms," Rogers told the DMN. "We found a site that will give students the greatest opportunity to learn, as well as have the attributes needed to make it successful for years to come."
