Dallas-based e-commerce company OrderMyGear has signed a lease for 23,000 square feet of space in the East Quarter development in downtown Dallas to expand its headquarters.
The lease at 2211 Commerce St. will nearly triple the space OrderMyGear previously occupied in the building—enabling the company to increase its employee count in the future.
“The expanded space will support the potential doubling of our headcount during the next few years.”
James Skidmore
“The expanded space will support the potential doubling of our headcount during the next few years,” co-founder and COO James Skidmore said in a release.
OrderMyGear was created as a software tool by co-founder and CEO Kent McKeaigg for his father—who was a youth sports team apparel and equipment dealer in Oklahoma—as a way to simplify the paper-based ordering process.
The company, which specializes in the team sporting goods and group apparel markets, has grown to 80 employees.
In April, OrderMyGear announced that it received a $35 million investment from Susquehanna Growth Equity that would allow the company to accelerate investment in its software, expand its products and services, and offer brand partners that McKeaigg called “important insights.”
OrderMyGear was represented in its search and lease negotiations by Cushman & Wakefield Senior Director Cribb Altman and Director Charlie Beck. Patrick Todd, a partner at Todd Interests, represented the company in-house.
ORDERMYGEAR HAS INNOVATIVE CULTURE
“OrderMyGear is an established, innovative, technology company. This lease signing coincides with OrderMyGear’s 10 year anniversary and a significant capital raise,” Todd told Dallas Innovates via email. “The company’s business success and energetic culture align perfectly with our vision for East Quarter and will be a key selling point as we hit the leasing market this fall.”
The East Quarter development is eight city blocks that sit north of the Farmers Market and just west of Deep Ellum, along streets that mostly converge around 2200 Main St.
“The East Quarter District provided a unique opportunity for OrderMyGear to renew and expand in its current space,” Altman said. “The chance to be an anchor tenant in a new downtown district, while also staying in a building that’s part of the company’s history, were major selling points.”
OrderMyGear is the second company to sign a lease at East Quarter. The first company to sign a new lease at in the new district was the tech company Vinli, which signed for 4,400 square feet in July, Todd said.
OrderMyGear is the largest tenant to commit to space in the new district on land that was recently acquired by a partnership between Todd Interests and Institutional Investors advised by J.P. Morgan Asset Management.
The redeveloped East Quarter will offer roughly 200,000 square feet of creative office and restaurant space.
In June, OrderMyGear announced it had hired Matt Kaplan as the Head of Enterprise Sales. Kaplan came to OrderMyGear from Under Armour, where he worked for 16 years in various leadership roles, most recently as the director of sales for team sports.
In December, OrderMyGear was one of two finalists for retail accelerator RevTech’s first Entrepreneur of the Year Award, which was won by the Dallas-based ethical home decor startup, The Citizenry.
