Cosm is bringing one of its first two immersive entertainment venues to Grandscape in The Colony, with state-of-the-art “shared reality” that it says will seamlessly bridge the gap between the virtual and the real. With the venues’ openings slated for 2024, one of the company’s big goals has been to get programming partners to fill Cosm’s massive LED-dome screens with seat-filling live sports.
Today, TNT Sports and Cosm announced a “first-of-its-kind,” multi-year broadcast partnership that will see Cosm produce and present select live premium sports programming from across TNT Sports’ footprint in “immersive 8K+” at its venues at Grandscape in The Colony and at Hollywood Park in Los Angeles.
Cosm says the agreement marks the first time a broadcast rightsholder will present live sports content in “shared reality” through Cosm’s pioneering technology and 87-foot diameter LED domes.
The news follows Cosm’s February announcement of a multi-year partnership with the NBA, which will see Cosm producing and presenting select games from NBA League Pass, the league’s out-of-market live-game streaming service.
TNT content to include NBA and NHL games and U.S. soccer teams’ matches
Under the new partnership, Cosm’s venues will showcase premium live events throughout the TNT Sports calendar, including select NBA on TNT regular season and playoff games—along with TNT’s exclusive coverage of the NBA’s Eastern or Western Conference Finals each year—as well as TNT’s coverage of the Stanley Cup Playoffs and select U.S. Men’s and Women’s National Soccer Team matches.
“This partnership is transformative, not just for Cosm but for the live sports and entertainment industry at large,” Jeb Terry, Cosm’s president and CEO, said in a statement. “We’re thrilled to team with TNT Sports to bring award-winning live coverage of the NBA, NHL, and U.S. National Soccer Teams to fans in a new way—by giving them the best seats in the house, every time. Cosm enables the best of at-home and in-venue, delivering the ultimate fan experience.”
“It’s a privilege to work with great partners like TNT Sports who also share an innovative spirit and commitment to the fan experience,” Terry added.
Raphael Poplock, SVP of acquisitions, business development and partnerships at TNT Sports, said his company has “always been at the leading edge of creating experiences, centered on innovation, that truly elevate how sports fans are able to engage with our premium content in exciting ways.”
“Partnering with Cosm further advances that mission,” he added in a statement, “offering a level of immersion within our thrilling NBA, NHL and U.S Soccer action like never before. We look forward to collaborating and bringing the possibilities of shared reality within sports to life next year.”
Other Warner Bros. Discovery content may also air at Cosm
As part of the TNT Sports partnership, Cosm and Warner Bros. Discovery will be exploring other non-scripted entertainment content that could be viewed at Cosm venues in the future. (No titles have been revealed, so we can’t confirm whether “Shark Week” will be chomping at those LED-dome screens someday).
