The Star in Frisco is getting a new office tower—one that will house a new Business & Innovation Hub for Comerica Bank and around 300 of its employees.
Comerica—which is headquartered in downtown Dallas—announced the corporate expansion plans today, saying the hub will meet the evolving needs of its colleagues and customers. The building is currently under construction at 17 Cowboys Way, just east of Gaylord Parkway. It’s slated to open between late 2023 and early 2024.
The new building is designed by Dallas-based HKS Architects.
Positioning the bank for ‘future success’
Megan Crespi, EVP and chief enterprise technology & operations services officer at Comerica, said the new hub “represents a significant investment in Comerica’s strategic vision that will benefit all Comerica colleagues and customers.”
“Expanding our corporate headquarters footprint to one of the most desirable locations for business and innovation in the U.S. is positioning our bank for future success,” she added.
Comerica isn’t making a wholesale bolt for Frisco—not by a long shot. The company says its executive offices, commercial bank, wealth management, credit, and several other business units will continue to operate from the Comerica Bank Tower at 1717 Main Street in downtown Dallas.
New hub will have balcony views
Comerica said its new hub will be on floors nine through 11 of the multi-tenant Class A+ tower, with a balcony overlooking the surrounding scenery and facilities. Comerica Bank’s name will go up on the top of the building, and the company will have a strong presence on the building’s first floor—with a banking center, customer entertainment, and a community resource center all at ground level.
Employee amenities may have never been more essential than in the current back-to-office era, and Comerica seems to be keeping them top of mind for the new hub. In a statement, Comerica said The Star’s “mixed-use campus approach offers colleagues ample entertainment, sports, retail, residential, and educational opportunities, along with more beneficial amenities that will further enhance our colleagues’ experience and attract new talent.”
‘Tech genius bar,’ innovation center, and more
The Frisco Business & Innovation Hub will prioritize employee collaboration, the company said, and offer “enhanced technology to support mobility.” (The company didn’t get specific, but employees may already be dreaming about everything from e-scooters to jet packs.)
Tech-enhanced mobility may be what whisks employees to two promised features: an innovation center where they can test new concepts, and a “tech genius bar.”
Promoting ‘cross-functional collaboration’
The hub’s 300 or so employees will belong to a variety of teams, Comerica says, from technology and product management to front-line business units. The bank aims to promote “cross-functional collaboration” to spur digital and business innovation, while meeting the changing needs of its customers.
The company’s HR department will be launching new Learning and Interview Centers at the new office, as well.
“Frisco is known for cultivating an exceptional environment for businesses to thrive,” Brian Foley, Comerica’s Texas Market President, said in the statement. “The hub’s on-site amenities and prominent location will help to support our company’s vision for future growth, including our ability to attract and retain top talent.”
Comerica reported $86.9 in total assets in June
Besides its presence in Texas, Comerica Bank operates locations in Arizona, California, Florida and Michigan, along with additional businesses in several other states, Canada, and Mexico. At the end of June, the company reported total assets of $86.9 billion.
