The Last Word: Texas Rangers GM Chris Young’s January Mission For His Team

“We need to win a world championship and that is the goal.”

All of North Texas has been going bonkers since the Texas Rangers won the 2023 World Series last night, defeating the Arizona Diamondbacks 5-0 and snagging the series with four wins against only one loss.

The franchise’s first World Series championship in its entire 63-year history surprised many—but not its general manager. Way back in January, he spoke to the Dallas Regional Chamber’s Executive Circle and said these prophetic words:

“There is not a more fulfilling feeling for me, a lifelong Texas Rangers fan, than to help the team win,” Young said. “We need to win a world championship and that is the goal. I promise you we are working toward that goal every day.”

The DRC posted that memory—and a photo of Young and Rangers Manager Bruce Bochy with the World Series trophy—on LinkedIn:

"More than 5,000 biotechnology manufacturing and research and development firms — think Novartis, Alcon, AstraZeneca — call Texas home," according to the university. • Recently refreshed, the ballpark's sensory room dampens distant roars and bat cracks with carpeted walls and floors and acoustic enhancements. Bean bag chairs, soothing color-changing lights, and wall-mounted fidget boards are part of the safe refuge. The ballpark also offers "sensory bags" featuring noise-canceling headphones and fidget toys. See why one in four of us could use them.
