Dallas-based Communities Foundation of Texas has fielded a lineup up DFW sports stars and legends to champion North Texas Giving Day, the largest communitywide giving event in the nation, to be held this Thursday, September 19.

World Series Champion and Texas Rangers first baseman Nathaniel Lowe kicked off the effort as North Texas Giving Day Ambassador, and legends from DFW sports franchises have joined him in encouraging the community to be ‘Champions of Giving’ for local nonprofits, the foundation said.

Over the past weeks—in the pre-giving window running up to the Giving Day’s arrival this week—the sports stars have been encouraging even more donations on North Texas Giving Day.

Athletes on board for the effort include Dallas Cowboy Zack Martin, NBA All-Star and Dallas Mavericks legend Rolando Blackman, and three-time NHL All-Star and former Dallas Stars goaltender Marty Turco. In addition, Dallas Wings guard Jacy Sheldon, Dallas Wings center Jaelyn Brown, and FC Dallas’ Paul Arriola have lent their support.

“With beloved local sports champions leading the way, we’re anticipating a huge victory for the thousands of local nonprofit partners we uplift through North Texas Giving Day,” Wayne White, Communities Foundation of Texas president and CEO, said in a statement.

‘As a team, we can get better together’

The online giving period began Sept. 1, at NorthTexasGivingDay.org and continues through Sept. 19. As of 5 p.m. today, $16,779,640 had already been raised.

North Texas Giving Day empowers everyone to give back to their community by supporting causes they care about on one easy-to-use platform where 100% of online gifts donated go directly to local nonprofits.

“Everybody has the opportunity to go out and help somebody get better,” said Lowe, whose personal cause of choice is cancer research. “As a team, we can get better together and we should definitely push to improve. It takes a dedicated team to bring North Texas Giving Day to life, and I’m proud to be a part of it.”

Over the past 15 years, North Texas Giving Day has grown to become the largest regional fundraising event in the nation, raising more than $60 million dollars for nonprofits in 2023. Donations from more than 30 community sponsors including presenting sponsor, Amazon, individual givers, and grants from Communities Foundation of Texas have fueled the program’s growth with funding to cover all transaction and technology fees plus tools, training, and resources for participating nonprofits.
