Stephen El Gidi tasted big-time competition in the 2008 and 2012 Olympics as a 100-meter butterfly specialist. But his competitive juices really got flowing when he tried to sell "cheesecakes on a stick" at Six Flags Over Texas and The State Fair of Texas. He found huge success in both historic venues—which led to him opening his own shop last month: Drizzle Cheesecakes at 310 W. Las Colinas Blvd. in Irving.

Pete Schenkel—who owned Dallas-based Schepps Dairy before its sale to Suiza Foods in 2000—led a long, accomplished life of leadership in Dallas before his death Wednesday at age 89. But the former board chair of the State Fair of Texas, DFW Airport, and the Methodist Health System Foundation may be best known for preserving something truly valuable: keeping the Texas-OU game at the Cotton Bowl at least through 2036.

Portnoy was in Dallas over the weekend to catch the Texas-OU game and to do some of his "one bite reviews" of local pizza restaurants and the fried food offerings at the State Fair of Texas. But he ended up reviewing a different local business after he experienced "pillow hell" at the JW Marriott hotel in the Dallas Arts District. He'd gone to a local Mattress Firm to buy his own pillows before he found a nice note from the hotel in his room with new pillow options—including a selection from Dallas-based The Pillow Bar. His post about The Pillow Bar's side sleeper pillow has since racked up over 1 million views on X.

We’re about a month and a half from the start of the State Fair of Texas and people are buzzing about the Big Tex Choice Awards. Since 2005, the contest has decided which new culinary creations will sit alongside the classics, like Fletcher’s Corny Dogs. Today, you can find Fletcher's in many places, like the grocery store and in a food truck at Klyde Warren Park. But their first appearance was at the State Fair of Texas in 1942.

It's going to be 106 degrees all weekend in Dallas-Fort Worth, but don't worry—fall is coming! The proof's in a viral video posted by user 23CUPS on Facebook and Instagram. There, in the next lane on the highway, an 18-wheeler is trucking gigantic Big Tex boots toward Fair Park, where the State Fair of Texas will open on September 29.

Slated to open in 2025, the complex is the first step to putting the "Park" back in Fair Park, says Fair Park First, Dallas Park and Recreation's management partner that oversees day-to-day operations at Fair Park.
The 18-acre Community Park Complex will feature Wi-Fi, water play, an outdoor performance stage, a dog park, outdoor cafes, exercise equipment, and inclusive playgrounds.
