With 95 patents issued or pending on its tech, Fort Worth's Linear Labs wants to bring manufacturing back to the U.S., seeing the electrification supply chain as a "national security strategic imperative."
Brad Hunstable launched Linear Labs in 2014 after incubating in the TechFW program. This year his company aims to produce 20,000 electric motors and intelligent drive systems—with twice the torque and half the size and weight of competitors.
The investment follows a $68.9 million incentive package Linear Labs closed with the City of Fort Worth in June. In addition to the funding, Linear Labs has added Masergy Chairman and CEO Chris MacFarland to its Board of Directors.
The technological advancement of these motors has "as big of an impact on minimizing global energy consumption as any major battery breakthrough could have," says Linear Labs' VP of Technology.
Four M200 motors in a four-wheeled vehicle "can provide more peak torque than a 2020 Porsche 911 Carrera S engine."
The newest version of Linear Labs' patented Hunstable Electric Turbine (HET) motor is intended to compete with the industry's top e-scooters. See how the micromobility motor stacks up.
The funding will be used to market the motor across the electric vehicle industry, as well as the micro-mobility, robotics, wind turbine, heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning industries.
