The competitive happy hour returns this month with the opportunity for five startups to pitch their 99-second idea for $5,000 web services credit from Amazon Web Services. After the pitches and audience Q&A, the crowd will vote on a winner who will not only receive recognition from the crowd, but also the opportunity to talk more about their product or service. The event is free and open to the public to network and enjoy food and drinks.

THE MORTGAGE TECH CONFERENCE FOR WOMEN
InterContinental Dallas, 15201 Dallas Parkway, in Addison

Influential speakers will discuss technologies and tools for growing and staying profitable in a regulation-heavy, contracting market, according to organizers. Tech demonstrations will show how the newest technology innovations solve today’s real-world pain points.

FRANCHISE EXPO SOUTH

SATURDAY, JAN. 20

DALLAS ISD STEM EXPO
Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center, 650 S. Griffin St., in Dallas

Immerse yourself in the world of science, engineering, technology, and math with Dallas ISD. The state’s largest STEM Expo will feature hands-on activities touching on subjects from robots and coding to architecture and 3D printing. The event is designed for Dallas area students and their families.

EMPOWERING TOMORROW’S WOMEN TODAY
Blackstone LaunchPad, 2830 Rutford Ave., in Richardson
2 – 4 p.m.

Skratch, a Dallas-based mobile platform that connects teens with paying gigs in their own neighborhoods, will host a panel of three women leaders to educate, inspire, and prepare young women to network, earn income, and become financially literate. Details here.

UPTOWN DALLAS, INC. 25TH ANNIVERSARY KICK OFF
