Assignee(s): SanDisk Technologies LLC (Plano, TX)
Law Firm: Brinks Gilson Lione (7 non-local offices)
Application No., Date, Speed: 14977198 on 12/21/2015 (666 days app to issue)

Abstract: A memory system or flash card includes a mechanism for memory cell measurement and analysis that independently measures/predicts memory wear/endurance, data retention (DR), read disturb, and/or remaining margin. These effects can be independently quantified by analyzing the state distributions of the individual voltage levels of the cells. In particular, a histogram of cell voltage distributions of the memory cells can be analyzed to identify signatures for certain effects (e.g. wear, DR, read disturb, margin, etc.). Those measurements are used for block cycling, data loss prediction, or adjustments to memory parameters. Pre-emptive action at the appropriate time based on the measurements leads to improved memory management and data management. That action includes calculating the remaining useful life of data stored in memory, cycling blocks, predicting data loss, trade-off or dynamic adjustments of memory parameters.

Law Firm: Patterson + Sheridan, LLP (1 non-local offices)
Application No., Date, Speed: 15048040 on 02/19/2016 (606 days app to issue)

Abstract: Embodiments herein describe a reference-less CDR circuit that receives electrical signals that may have been transmitted along either an electrical or optical interconnect which are then processed to identify the original data. To do so, the CDR circuit includes a frequency locking loop (FLL) and a phase locking loop (PLL) which generate control signals for a voltage controlled oscillator (VCO). In one embodiment, the FLL generates a coarse adjustment signal which the VCO uses to output a recovered clock that substantially matches the frequency of the received electrical signal. The PLL, on the other hand, generates a fine adjustment signal which the VCO uses to make small adjustments (e.g., half cycle phase shifts) to the recovered clock. The recovered clock outputted by the VCO is then fed back and used as an input in both the FLL and the PLL.
