Cook Children’s Patients Escape on ‘Dreamlike Journey’ Via VR

Patients at Cook Children’s Medical Center took a journey to new and exciting places this week with the help of Dallas-based 900lbs of Creative.
From scuba diving in the Florida Keys to hiking atop a mountain in New Mexico, patients at the Fort Worth hospital had the opportunity to step out of their hospital rooms Wednesday and into virtual worlds through virtual reality headsets.
“The ability to virtually transport someone completely out of context and take them on a dreamlike journey is such a powerful thing. Technology has finally caught up with our imaginations,” said 900lbs of Creative founder and CEO Steve Deitz in a release.
The experience was coordinated through the hospital’s Child Life Department, which works to offer activities for patients and their families.
“Whatever challenges patients are going through, we believe kids deserve to be kids in every way we can make possible,” said Jillian Mitchell, community program coordinator at Cook Children’s.
