Mary Kay Ash Foundation Awards $1M in Domestic Violence Shelter Grants Across U.S.

The Mary Kay Ash Foundation announced today that it has awarded $1 million in domestic violence shelter grants across the U.S. The grants were awarded to 50 domestic violence shelters, which each received $20,000 grants.
The foundation said it is committed to funding "the vital work of women’s shelters," supporting women and children as they "seek refuge and relief on their journey to a life free of abuse." Its annual shelter grant program helps to finance critical needs including emergency shelter, transitional housing, counseling, and legal aid.

The agency is occupying a second full floor at The Luminary building in the West End Innovation District, doubling its footprint in one year.

Energy and utility services innovator ELM is constructing a new, 125,000-square-foot headquarters and manufacturing facility in The Colony for its MicroGrid and Solar divisions.
When fully operational, Illinois-based ELM said the facility will employ more than 100 clean-energy professionals, including engineering, production technicians, customer service, sales, and management employees.

Fort Worth-Founded Fuzzy’s Taco Shop Chain Acquired for $80M

Dine Brands Global—the parent company of IHOP and Applebee's Grill + Bar—acquired the fast casual Fuzzy's Taco Shop chain, which serves Baja-style Mexican cuisine in "a fun, energetic atmosphere." Since the first Fuzzy's was founded in 2003 near TCU, the chain has grown to 138 locations in 18 states.

Led by Irving's Fluor Corporation in a joint venture with Balfour Beatty Infrastructure, the 10-mile-long TxDOT project included the reconstruction and widening of lanes on I-35E between U.S. 67 and I-30 and on U.S. 67 between I-20 and I-35E. Along this stretch of I-35, phase one of Southern Gateway Park—a sprawling planned deck park near the Dallas Zoo—has been decked out for its continuing construction.
