Buoyed by the AI-in-cybersecurity boom, TrendAI, whose U.S. headquarters is in Irving, just hit a monetary milestone in a prominent software marketplace.
TrendAI, the AI cybersecurity business of Japanese cybersecurity software provider Trend Micro Inc., said it recently surpassed $1 billion in sales on the AWS Marketplace, owned by ecommerce giant Amazon.com Inc. The marketplace enables customers to find, buy, install and manage third-party software, data and services.
AWS stands for Amazon Web Services. Amazon’s cloud-computing platform generated $128.7 billion in revenue last year. Amazon President and CEO Andy Jassy told employees in March that AWS could hit $600 billion in annual revenue by 2036, Reuters reported.
TrendAI’s $1 billion milestone demonstrates “organizations want to consume security through the platforms where they’re already investing and innovating,” a company spokesperson told Dallas Innovates.
Why big companies are buying AI tech
TrendAI attributes the milestone to big companies ramping up cybersecurity protections to guard against AI-oriented threats, the spokesperson said.
These customers aim to detect malicious text-embedded AI commands, gain insights into AI risk and control the use of AI. They can access these capabilities through TrendAI’s Vision One platform on the AWS Marketplace, the spokesperson said.
Some of the spike in TrendAI’s sales through the AWS Marketplace stems from new customers embracing AI security for the first time and existing customers advancing AI initiatives, the spokesperson said.
Organizations “are deploying AI services faster than traditional security approaches can adapt,” said the spokesperson.
TrendAI characterized the $1 billion milestone less as a standalone win and more as evidence of a shift in how companies purchase cybersecurity tools. Buyers increasingly rely on cloud-based avenues like the AWS Marketplace instead of traditional sales channels, the spokesperson said.
AI cybersecurity market takes off
TrendAI achieved the $1 billion milestone amid rapid expansion of the AI-in-cybersecurity market.
A report from Grand View Research predicted the value of the global AI-in-cybersecurity market will jump 141% from 2025 to 2033. The firm estimated the market size stood at $31.5 billion last year and will skyrocket to $182.9 billion by 2023.
A report from another market research firm, SNS Insider, also projects a hefty increase. SNS Insider’s forecast indicated that the market’s value will skyrocket from $32 billion last year to $275 billion by 2035.
Threats from cyber, ransomware and phishing attacks contribute to the growing demand for AI cybersecurity, SNS Insider said. So do the expansion of cloud and internet of things technology, stepped-up monitoring of AI activity and tightening of compliance regulations.
“What we’re seeing is demand for AI security becoming part of core infrastructure planning rather than a standalone security project,” the TrendAI spokesperson said.
TrendAI’s AI-first pivot
Trend Micro has sold through the marketplace for more than a decade and seen demand spike in the 12 years since it adopted consumption-based billing there in 2014.
“Last year, we rebuilt ourselves as TrendAI, an AI-first security company, because we believe the next decade of security is about AI,” Rachel Jin, head of TrendAI and its chief platform and business officer, said in a statement. “Customers are adopting AI faster than they can secure it. Our strong record of innovation gives us the foundation to change that and help organizations adopt AI securely.”
In March, Trend Micro announced the rebranding of its enterprise cybersecurity unit as TrendAI, reflecting AI’s growing role as a foundation of business computing.
“This is a fundamentally new way of approaching cybersecurity,” Jin said. “As AI systems take on more responsibility, security must evolve from reacting to events to understanding intent and governing machine-driven actions.”
