As part of its efforts to reshore high-tech manufacturing, Silicon Valley-based NVIDIA, in partnership with Taiwan’s Wistron, held a groundbreaking event for their AI supercomputer manufacturing facility at Hillwood’s AllianceTexas in Fort Worth.
Last summer, Wistron purchased two properties in Fort Worth to build and test NVIDIA AI supercomputers: the 766,994-square-foot Westport 14 at 14601 Mobility Way from Hillwood, and a 324,598-square-foot building from Trammell Crow Co., 35 Eagle at 15200 Heritage Pkwy.
Wistron said the two Fort Worth plants represent a $761 million investment. That is about $100 million more than initially presented during meetings of Fort Worth City Council. The company eventually plans to hire 888 employees, according to city and county presentations.
This is Wistron’s second facility in North Texas. The company, which spun out of Acer in 2001, operates Wistron GreenTech Texas, a state-of-the-art electronics recycling hub in McKinney. In 2022, Wistron GreenTech partnered with New Jersey-based Princeton NuEnergy on a 500-ton lithium-ion battery (LIB) direct recycling pilot production line.
In Fort Worth, Wistron said it is utilizing the NVIDIA Omniverse DSX Blueprint and Physical AI technology to upgrade AI factory smart manufacturing and boost operational efficiency. NVIDIA’s Omniverse is a real-time, 3D graphics collaboration platform. It was used to create digital twins of the factories in the design-build process.
The company is focusing on optimizing testing areas and core facility systems within AI factories in both Taiwan and the United States.
Powering AI industry
When NVIDIA announced the plants last summer, it called its AI supercomputers “the engines of a new type of data center created for the sole purpose of processing artificial intelligence — AI factories that are the infrastructure powering a new AI industry.”
Tens of such “gigawatt AI factories” are slated to be built in the coming years, NVIDIA noted. Manufacturing NVIDIA AI chips and supercomputers for U.S. AI factories is expected to create “hundreds of thousands of jobs and drive trillions of dollars in economic security over the coming decades,” the company added.

“AI is driving a once-in-a-generation opportunity to reinvigorate American manufacturing and supply chains,” NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang said in a blog post earlier this month.
NVIDIA said it plans to produce up to $500 billion of AI infrastructure in the U.S. over the next several years with partners including Wistron, TSMC in Phoenix, Foxconn in Houston, Corning, Lumentum, Coherent and Amkor. The company estimates that its AI-related operations will support 100,000 jobs across the country.
Just announced last month, Coherent is working with NVIDIA in Sherman, about 50 miles north of Dallas, on a new factory. That factory will produce the lasers, optical components and compound semiconductors that wire AI systems together to operate what the company calls the world’s first 6-inch indium phosphide fab.
North Texas draws facilities to reshore U.S. tech manufacturing
North Texas is reinforcing its growing prowess as an AI manufacturing hub and strengthening the nation’s high-tech supply chain.
Earlier this month, Taiwan’s Foxlink Group announced that it will produce printed circuit board assemblies (PCBA) in the company’s first “AI Factory” in the United States, also located at AllianceTexas.
Late last year, Texas Instruments began producing semiconductors at its Sherman 300mm wafer fab plant, part of its $40 billion in planned investments to bring back a sizable chunk of computer chip production to the U.S.
In 2024, technology holding group G42 announced it was building an “8-exaFLOP AI supercomputer” in Dallas, the third cluster of a constellation of AI supercomputers it’s building with California-based Cerebras Systems.
