IKS Health Appoints Former Mayo Clinic Exec as Its First Chief AI Officer

Ajai Sehgal spent 16 years with the Royal Canadian Air Force before joining Microsoft, where he played a pivotal role in founding and scaling Expedia. Outside of work, he's also a licensed pilot, volunteer firefighter, and EMT, IKS said.

IKS Health, a global leader in care enablement solutions supporting clinicians, staff, and patients, has named former Mayo Clinic exec Ajai Sehgal as the company’s first chief AI officer.

IKS—which is based in Mumbai, India, with U.S. headquarters in Dallas—called Sehgal ” a seasoned leader with a remarkable career spanning startups to Fortune 100 organizations.”

“In this strategic role, Ajai will lead IKS Health’s enterprise-wide AI vision and strategy, harnessing the power of data, analytics, and advanced technologies to accelerate innovation and enhance outcomes across our care enablement platform,” IKS Health Founder and Global CEO Sachin K. Gupta said in a statement. “Ajai will undoubtedly deepen the impact we create for our clients and the healthcare industry at large.”

From the Royal Canadian Air Force to Microsoft to the Mayo Clinic

Most recently, Sehgal served as the first-ever chief data & analytics officer at the Mayo Clinic, where he spearheaded efforts to leverage more than a century of clinical data to drive breakthrough medical innovations and elevate patient care, IKS said. He also served as chair of digital technology at the Mayo Clinic’s Center for Digital Health.

Sehgal’s global experience also includes serving as CTO/CIO at EagleView, Hootsuite, and The Chemistry Group, where he led key functions such as Data & Analytics, Software Engineering, IT, Security, and Operations. Earlier in his career, Ajai spent 16 years with the Royal Canadian Air Force before joining Microsoft, where he played a pivotal role in founding and scaling Expedia into the world’s largest travel agency.

“I’m honored to join IKS Health at this pivotal moment in healthcare,” Sehgal said. “The opportunity to leverage AI to tackle the administrative burden faced by clinicians and administrators isn’t just a technological challenge—it’s a moral imperative. By freeing up healthcare professionals to focus on what they do best, we can directly improve patient care and well-being. IKS Health’s mission-driven approach and wealth of data provide a unique platform to make a meaningful and lasting impact on the U.S. healthcare system and beyond.”

Sehgal appearing this week at IKS’ Vitalize summit

Sehgal’s appointment comes ahead of IKS Health’s semi-annual Vitalize summit, a healthcare innovation event that starts this Thursday, gathering “healthcare’s brightest minds” to learn, share, and tackle the industry’s toughest challenges. Sehgal will be a featured panelist on “The Future Is Connected: Data, AI, and the Next Era of Care” panel. This year’s Vitalize summit also includes an inaugural Healthcare Technology Leaders forum, the company said.

The company said Sehgal is committed to responsible AI innovation and continues to mentor, advise, and contribute to the broader technology community. Outside of work, he is a licensed pilot, volunteer firefighter, and EMT, IKS added.
