Lewisville-based software company RedCritter announced it has launched what it calls a groundbreaking AI innovation, CritterCoin, a Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports suite for schools powered by ChatGPT from OpenAI.
“Millions of teachers are already using OpenAI’s ChatGPT to create lesson plans and materials,” CEO Mike Beaty said in a statement. “Our patent-pending technology takes ChatGPT beyond chat and transforms it into a fully automated schoolwide PBIS solution that can automate tutoring, behavior correction, student recognition, issuing rewards and even help with fundraising.”
Founded in 2010, the company said that new AI capabilities automate PBIS on a schoolwide level. Its suite offers adaptive and personalized student tutoring and engagement, along with automated recognition and rewards.
‘Revolutionizes the learning experience’
RedCritter said that CritterCoin represents a significant milestone in education, revolutionizing the learning experience and how students engage with educational content. The CritterCoin suite consists of a House System, Reward Store, 3D Collectible Coins, fund-raising and collectible Web3 Critter NFTs as prizes, RedCritter said.
According to RedCritter, Quests, a major enhancement in this release, allow educators to visually design personalized learning and corrective behavioral experiences for students.
AI-powered ‘Quests’ enable students to interview historical characters, learn to code, and more
such as interviewing historicalQuests deliver new types of AI-powered interactions, such as interviewing historical or fictional characters, receiving personal tutoring on any topic, learning a language, and learning to code. Students can even role-play scenarios with the AI in a foreign language, the company said.
Quests use AI to generate and grade quizzes and are capable of scoring students’ free-form interactions with the AI. The company said that students can volunteer for quests and complete them at their own pace giving them more autonomy over their learning process.
With CritterCoin’s Data Insights, educators can track AI-related learning schoolwide as well as visualize data from every student’s AI session, RedCritter said.
With Quests, CritterCoin delivers the first fully automated suite of AI-powered PBIS services for schools, RedCritter said.
RedCritter’s products gained traction in Australia and the U.K.
Beaty told the Dallas Morning News last year that the company’s products became very popular in Australia and the United Kingdom and expanded to the U.S. as students returned to in-person learning during the pandemic.
With schools going online during the pandemic, Beaty said RedCritter looked ahead at what schools would need once they came back into classrooms.
It was there that the firm developed CritterCoin, a simpler system for teachers and classrooms to use.
“The main goal of the system was—knowing how busy teachers [were] going to be—being able to eliminate the teacher’s distraction and disruption in the classroom from dealing with the software,” Beaty told the Morning News.
