Movement Climbing, Yoga and Fitness—a Colorado-based national leader in indoor climbing gyms—just got a bigger toehold in North Texas.
Movement already operated a gym with 50-foot climbing walls (above) in the Dallas Design District and a bouldering, yoga, and fitness center at The Hill Shopping Center on Dallas’ Walnut Hill Lane, along with 19 other climbing and fitness gyms in California, Colorado, Illinois, Maryland, Oregon, and Virginia.
Now its Dallas-Fort Worth presence has topped out even more with the acquisition of four Summit Climbing, Yoga and Fitness Gyms’ locations in Grapevine, Plano, Denton, and Fort Worth. The Summit gyms feature rock climbing, bouldering, yoga, and a variety of fitness activities including classes, cardio, and weightlifting.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
“We’re extremely excited to be expanding our presence in Dallas,” Movement CEO Jeremy Levitt said in a statement. “The Summit team has done an incredible job creating a strong climbing community and I’m thrilled that they will be joining the Movement team.”
Movement CEO ‘grew up in the DFW climbing community’
Summit Gyms CEO and co-owner Kyle Clinkscales noted that Levitt has deep ties to the Dallas area.
“Movement’s CEO, Jeremy Levitt, started climbing in the late ’90s at Exposure, which is now the Team Texas training center in Carrollton,” Clinkscales said in a statement. “Jeremy grew up in the DFW climbing community, was a Team Texas athlete, and we know he believes in it just as much as we do, Movement will build on and strengthen the amazing community that Summit has fostered over the last 20-plus years.”
Acquisition includes Team Texas youth climbing team
As part of the deal, Movement said it has also acquired Team Texas—Summit’s “world-class” youth climbing team—and the Summit Carrollton location as a team training facility. Team Texas competes on a national and world level in USA Climbing and IFSC competitions. Founded in 1996, the team has won 30 Youth National Team Championships across multiple disciplines, Movement said.
Acquired gym locations
The four acquired gym locations include:
• Summit Grapevine, Summit’s newest and largest location, which opened in September of 2022. The 36,000 square-foot facility offers top-rope, lead climbing, and bouldering in a 3-story gym. Fitness equipment, a training area, and yoga and fitness studios are also available.
• Summit Plano, a 32,000-square-foot facility featuring 2,000 square feet of top-rope, lead, and auto-belay climbing, 5,000 square feet of bouldering, plus fitness equipment and a full-service yoga studio with regular weekly classes.
• Summit Denton, a bouldering-only facility that offers a fitness area, circuit room, and Moon/Kilter boards (electronic climbing training boards). It also has an in-house yoga studio offering regular classes.
• Summit Fort Worth, a bouldering-only facility located in the West 7th district. It features a top-out boulder and training wall, a fitness facility, and an in-house yoga studio offering regular classes.
