We all know that traffic in North Texas is a monster to contend with, and the city of Fort Worth hopes its new partnership with Waze, the real-time navigation app, will help drivers in the city get around a little easier.
The Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported that the partnership is part of the Connected Citizens Program that provides data and assists drivers in finding alternate routes past traffic jams, accidents, and road closures.
The program intends to route Waze-reported data to the city so that it can tackle incidents more quickly.
Users of the app — called Wazers — provide real-time notifications about what is happening on the highways and byways, whether they be accidents, traffic jams, objects on the road, weather, or other traffic-related obstacles.
The Star-Telegram said that more than 500,000 active Wazers in DFW drive more than 114 million miles each month and contribute more than 650,000 alerts monthly.
The partnership is truly a two-way street.
The city will provide Waze with data on crashes, construction, and road closures, allowing Waze to update its users on real-time road hazards.
