.…on the college receiving a $20 million gift—its largest ever—from an anonymous donor.
Dallas’ Paul Quinn College has received a $20 million gift from an anonymous donor, the largest in the institution’s 152-year history. The gift will help fuel investments in a variety of programs for the college, which is credited as the creator of the Urban Work College model and is the only minority-serving, federally recognized Work College in America.
“The impact of this gift on our institution and our students, staff, faculty, and alumni cannot be overstated,” Sorrell said in a statement. “We will be eternally grateful to the donors who made this possible. We will never forget them or their faith in our work.”
Paul Quinn said that among the investments this gift will allow are:
- Expand PQC’s ability to provide scholarship support for students.
- Significantly increase the College’s endowment.
- Establish an endowed Faculty Chair for the Banking & Finance Program.
- Bolster the Fundraising & Philanthropy Program.
- Expand the Office of Development.
- Support the Every Quinnite is an Entrepreneur Program.
- Endow the upkeep and maintenance of the College’s physical plant.
- Enhance the school’s outdoor collaborative learning spaces.
‘Our ongoing journey to redefine higher education’
Paul Quinn College is a private, faith-based, four-year, liberal arts-inspired college that was founded in 1872 by a group of African Methodist Episcopal Church preachers in Austin. Its original purpose was to educate freed slaves and their offspring.
Paul Quinn now educates students of all races and socio-economic classes under the banner of its institutional ethos, WE over Me.
In 2023, Paul Quinn chose Ellucian Colleague SaaS to modernize the technology operations of the innovative Historically Black College and University.
“Embracing Ellucian’s advanced technology solutions is a pivotal step in our ongoing journey to redefine higher education,” Sorrell said last year. “While the cost is a significant investment for us, we’re confident that our partners at Ellucian will help us deliver a more efficient and user-friendly experience for our students, faculty, and staff.”
