This coming Monday, Jan. 27, marks the 80th anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz concentration camp, also recognized as International Holocaust Remembrance Day. In the run-up to this global event, the Dallas Holocaust and Human Rights Museum is opening its doors for free to students this Saturday and Sunday, Jan. 25 and 26.
“International Holocaust Remembrance Day is a vital moment to honor the millions of lives lost during the Holocaust and reflect on its lessons to build a more just and compassionate future,” Higgins said in a statement, adding that over the weekend, “we hope to spark conversations between generations, fostering understanding and dialogue about this significant historical event, especially amongst our youth who may be learning about this horrific event for the first time.”
“Together, we can inspire the next generation to recognize the power of resilience and humanity, even in the face of unimaginable tragedy,” Higgins added.
Between 1940 and 1945, at least 1.1 million people, mostly Jews, were murdered at Auschwitz, a complex of camps that included forced labor camps, a concentration camp, and a death camp. the museum noted.
The museum said it will offer free admission for guests under 18 or students with valid ID on Saturday, January 25 and Sunday, January 26. Note: The museum isn’t recommended for children under 12 years of age.
The museum is located at 300 N. Houston Street in downtown Dallas. For more info on the museum, go here.
