.…introducing Cosm Dallas at Saturday’s “immersive shared reality” preview evening at Grandscape in The Colony.
Terry and Cosm Board Chairman Steve Winn welcomed an invitation-only crowd Saturday night for a preview experience of Cosm’s new venue at Grandscape in The Colony. Officially opening on August 31 with a College Kickoff Weekend, the venue and its 87-foot diameter, 12K-plus LED dome will make people feel like they’re magically close to the action of live sports and arts events—from college football and NBA games to Premier League matches, UFC fights, Cirque du Soleil performances, and more. On Saturday night, the crowd got a taste of what “immersive shared reality” is like—and came away wowed.
Winn, the billionaire founder of RealPage and CEO of Mirasol Capital, told the preview crowd that Cosm is now “the largest aggregator of content in the world” thanks to partnerships with the NBA, ESPN, TNT Sports, NBC Sports, FOX Sports, and the UFC—with other expansions potentially on tap.
“When I say our ambition is unbounded, our vision is limitless—you’re going to see that here tonight, across category,” Terry promised the guests before they filed into the dome.
The crowd—which included Cosm IP and capital partners—experienced immersive court-side views of the Dallas Mavericks playing in the 2024 NBA Finals; on-the-ice moments of the Panthers and Oilers clashing at the 2024 NHL Stanley Cup Finals; a UT Longhorns football game (Is that pass heading at me?); artful you-are-there moments from Cirque du Soleil’s “O,” and more.
A 20-minute “viral social” experience called “Orbital” featured a stunning celestial history of planet Earth. Awe-filled voiceover interviews with dozens of astronauts revealed how seeing the planet from space changed their lives forever—and the awe definitely came through to Cosm viewers who were immersed in the experience Saturday.
The evening also featured a drone light show out on Cosm’s third-story deck—before a final live, shared-reality feed of a UFC match in Perth, Australia, back in the dome.
The UFC match provided the most “I get it” moment of Cosm’s preview. With each leg-smacking kick and jaw-crushing punch, it was better than having a ring-side seat. Instead, you felt like you had your elbows hooked right over the edge of the octagon, seeing the fight unfold just feet in front of you—as the sold-out Australian crowd stretched to the rafters at the top of the Cosm screen, bellowing their own “shared reality” excitement at the same moment from the other side of the world.
But with not quite as good a view.
