The Last Word: Allen EDC’s Dan Bowman on Planned Katy Trail Ice House Development in Allen

“This is the kind of thing that gets your employees back in the office and gives them a reason to come in.”

Some people think it’s a drag to go to the office. But what if right outside your workplace there’s a $10 million new Katy Trail Ice House on wooded grounds with three barbecue smokers, a ranch theme, and seating for 1,200 people?

That’s just what’s coming along State Highway 121 in Allen, on 10 acres that Katy Trail Ice House Founder Buddy Cramer bought last year—with two office buildings as part of the development.

Cramer told Dallas Business Journal’s Noor Adatia he expects Katy Trail Ice House: The Ranch to be a natural attraction for the two adjacent office buildings, which will be constructed by developer Hines Interests LP to offer a “campus-style atmosphere”—including connections to Allen’s hike-and-bike trail.

“Hines is one of the top developers and they’re going to create something that fits in with the Ice House and have a lifestyle for tenants,” Cramer told the DBJ.
