Southwestern Medical Foundation Begins Transition to New CFO

The foundation said that in addition to her role as CFO, Sarah Fletcher—formerly CFO of the Trinity Park Conservancy—will serve as a foundation officer. She will oversee the accounting and investment of its $1 billion endowment—which supports leading-edge medical research, education, and patient care.

Plano native Whitney Leigh Stuard is the winner of the 2023 Ho Din Award. As a co-founder of a student interest group focused on disabilities and a non-profit organization providing support to mothers, Stuard's contributions extend beyond her medical prowess. She also authored and received a TMA Foundation Grant for a STEM project that impacted more than 4,000 students.

UTSW Researchers Find Autoantibody Linked to Rare Disorder That Destroys Fat

The UT Southwestern researchers discovered the first molecular biomarker for AGL, a rare disorder in which fat deposits are destroyed, causing patients to have dangerously low body fat, signs of accelerated aging, and severe metabolic diseases including diabetes and fatty liver.

The Cary Council—a group of young leaders dedicated to advancing early-stage research in support of Southwestern Medical Foundation and UT Southwestern Medical Center—has announced three new "DocStars": Dominic Moon, M.D.; Robin Higashi, Ph.D.; and Proshad Efune, M.D.
The UT Southwestern principal investigators will get $50,000 each to continue their pioneering work. Since launching the program in 2017, The Cary Council has awarded 15 grants, which attracted $9.4 million in additional funding.
