Respected leaders and experts in tax, Damon Chronis and Matt Travis bring extensive industry experience and knowledge of Ryan’s business to lead the company's strategy for the Americas, the Plano-based global tax services and software company said.

Plano-based global tax services and software company Ryan has promoted Damon Chronis to president, Americas, and Matt Travis to president, U.S. operations. The promotions’ goal is to lead the company’s strategy for the Americas with “a shared vision for innovation and operational excellence, bolstering the firm’s ability to provide excellent client value while continuing to invest in its people and future growth,” Ryan said.

Respected leaders and experts in tax, Chronis and Travis bring extensive industry experience and knowledge of Ryan’s business to lead the company’s strategy for the Americas, Ryan said.

Ryan Chairman and CEO G. Brint Ryan said the two leaders “have each played an important role in shaping Ryan into the Firm we are today.”

“Their longstanding tenures reflect years of trusted leadership and a deep commitment to our culture and clients,” Ryan added in a statement. “I’ve had the privilege of watching them both grow within the organization and consistently lead with integrity, vision, and purpose. As they take on these expanded roles, I am excited to see the impact their partnership will have on our team members, the clients we serve around the world, and Ryan’s future.”

Leadership in regional growth and financial performance

With more than 27 years at Ryan, Chronis brings the strategic vision and client-first mindset that continue to define the firm today, the company said. Chronis began his career in 1999 in the Sales and Use Tax practice and quickly established himself as a problem solver and capable advisor.

Over the years, he played a key role in building and expanding several of Ryan’s industry-leading tax practices, including pioneering work in fuel tax exemptions and ticket excise tax strategies that have led to more than one billion dollars in tax savings. His leadership has been defined by a relentless focus on outcomes and a philosophy of “listen and learn first,” the company said

As President, Americas, Chronis oversees Ryan’s business across the United States, Canada, and Latin America, targeting regional growth, operational alignment, and financial performance.

Ryan said his priorities include:

  • Leading Ryan’s growth strategy across the Americas, including market expansion, acquisitions, and client development initiatives
  • Aligning regional and functional leadership teams around shared business priorities, operational excellence, and long-term strategic objectives
  • Serving as a key connector between regional execution and Ryan’s broader global strategy to ensure consistent alignment across the enterprise
  • Overseeing financial performance across the Americas while driving scalability and sustained value creation for clients and stakeholders

“We’re entering an exciting period for Ryan where we can truly serve our purpose at scale,” Chronis said. “We have the best team in tax, bar none. Our domain expertise, combined with our technology capabilities, means we can support clients across the globe with unmatched capacity and further strengthen our reputation for excellence.”

‘Giving good ideas a try’

Travis’s career at Ryan highlights both the entrepreneurial opportunity and collaborative spirit driving the firm’s growth for more than 30 years, Ryan said. First joining Ryan as an intern in 2002, Travis has roles in the firm’s Severance Tax practice from its earliest stages. After joining and ultimately leading EnerTax, he returned in 2015 following Ryan’s acquisition of the business, where he integrated and expanded a successful specialty practice, the company said.

Known for his operational discipline, transparent and direct leadership style, and commitment to the next generation of tax professionals, Travis’s leadership approach focuses on empowering high performers, relentless prioritization, and “giving good ideas a try,” the firm said. He has built teams that consistently deliver strong client results while offering meaningful opportunities for advancement.

As President, U.S. Operations, Travis oversees the day-to-day operations of Ryan’s U.S. business, turning enterprise strategy into operational execution and business performance. H

Per Ryan, his priorities include:

  • Driving operational execution throughout the U.S. business to deliver strong financial performance and exceptional client service
  • Partnering closely with the executive leadership team on strategic planning, business priorities, investments, acquisitions, and operations
  • Improving efficiency, accountability, and execution across Ryan’s U.S. operations
  • Ensuring Ryan’s U.S. business remains aligned with enterprise objectives, operational standards, and the Firm’s long-term strategic vision

“Ryan has always been a place where people with drive and ideas can build something meaningful—not just for clients, but for their own careers and families,” said Travis. “Having started my journey as an intern more than two decades ago, it’s incredibly rewarding to step into this role at such a pivotal time for the Firm. I truly believe Ryan represents the best of the tax industry. With our exceptional tax practitioners and leadership teams, we have nothing but opportunity ahead.”
