“This is an issue that every person faces at some point in their lives and we all need to drop the shame,” Suzy Batiz, founder and CEO of Poo~Pourri, said in a statement. “If our campaign helps to liberate couples during a first romantic trip together and transform the experience into one of humor and confidence, we’ve done our jobs.”
Batiz founded Poo~Pourri in 2007, which produces toilet sprays made of natural essential oils.
The #FirstPooWithBoo campaign consists of a long-form narrative divided into smaller social campaign spots, according to a statement. The ad campaign was created by Crispin Porter Bogusky, a Colorado advertising agency, and is expected to run for six weeks on digital, streaming, and social channels.
In the ad, the brand characters of Poo~Pourri girl (Bethany) and Hotels.com’s Captain Obvious act as sport commentators narrating the ways people try to keep their significant others from finding out they need to use the bathroom.
“The first trip with your significant other is a big milestone for people, and the anxiety over the shared hotel room bathroom is real,” Katie Van, director of North America and LATAM brand creative at Hotels.com, said in a statement. “Hotels.com and Poo~Pourri are the perfect combination for that first trip together. And who better than Captain Obvious to act as a commentator—literally—about that experience?”
Hotels.com conducted a survey of 1000 people, in which it found that 37 percent of people find going to the bathroom as the most anxiety-inducing part of the first trip with their significant other, according to a statement. Along with this, 73 percent of people will go to great lengths to avoid using the hotel bathroom with their significant other in the room.
The brands have also created “Poo How-To’s” for when Poo~Pourri isn’t on hand, consisting of illustrations for moves and techniques when you need to use the bathroom while your significant other is nearby.
Hotels.com and Poo~Pourri created a limited run of co-branded boxes featuring Poo-Pourri’s best-selling scent Original Citrus to celebrate their partnership.
