General Motors, already Arlington’s largest private employer, continues to grow its footprint in the city both as a manufacturer and a financial company.
While the General Motors Assembly Plant in Arlington has grabbed most of the headlines in recent years for its $1.4 billion expansion that added new technologies and employees to the plant, GM Financial’s $35 million expansion also will add 1,300 new jobs, the Dallas Business Journal reported.
The expansion will add 250,000 square feet to the facility that already is 800,000 square feet on Collins Street in south Arlington.
GM Financial, previously AmeriCredit Corp., handles financing for about one-third of the vehicles GM (NYSE: GM) sells globally. New jobs include loan processing, customer service, human resources and managing reselling vehicles.
Counting the assembly plant, GM has more than 8,000 employees in Arlington.
