Abstract: An anchoring tool for positioning a downhole tool within a wellbore conduit is described herein. The anchor tool uses replaceable blades having protrusions that are configured to align with corresponding grooves in an anchor sub receptacle that is located at a known position along the wellbore conduit. The blades of the anchor tool are configured to move radially relative to the anchor tool body until the anchor tool is aligned with a compatible anchor sub. When the anchor tool and the compatible anchor sub are aligned, the protrusions of the anchor tool blade extend into the grooves of the anchor sub receptacle and a locking mechanism within the anchor tool inhibits further radial movement of the blades. A downhole tool connected to the anchor tool can therefore be positioned at a precise location relative to the known location of an anchor sub receptacle.

Law Firm: Chamberlain Hrdlicka (5 non-local offices)
Application No., Date, Speed: 14367332 on 03/02/2012 (2678 days app to issue)

Abstract: A perforating apparatus for a gun string is presented. The apparatus experiences an axial load and potentially a radial load during use. A central charge-carrier supports shaped-charges and substantially bears the axial load on the apparatus during use. The charge-carrier is positioned within an exterior sleeve and the plurality of shaped-charges, upon detonation, perforate the exterior sleeve. The exterior sleeve does not bear a substantial portion of the axial load on the apparatus and can therefore be thinner and cheaper than in prior art assemblies. An annular space can be defined between the charge-carrier and exterior sleeve. The exterior tubular can bear the radial load due to differential pressure in one embodiment. Alternately, the apparatus includes radial support members extending between the charge-carrier and sleeve for transmitting radial load to the charge-carrier. Alternately, the sleeve and charge-carrier abut one another along a substantial portion of the length of the charge-carrier.

Abstract: By removing material of low permeability from within and around a perforation tunnel and creating at least one fracture at the tip of a perforation tunnel, injection parameters and effects such as outflow rate and, in the case of multiple perforation tunnels benefiting from such cleanup, distribution of injected fluids along a wellbore are enhanced. Following detonation of a charge carrier, a second explosive event is triggered within a freshly made tunnel, thereby substantially eliminating a crushed zone and improving the geometry and quality (and length) of the tunnel. In addition, this action creates substantially debris-free tunnels and relieves the residual stress cage, resulting in perforation tunnels that are highly conducive to injection under fracturing conditions for disposal and stimulation purposes, and that promote even coverage of injected fluids across the perforated interval.

Abstract: A multi-frequency inductive sensing system can be used for spectrographic material analysis of a conductive target material (such as tissue) based on electrical impedance spectroscopy. An inductive senor can be driven with an excitation current at multiple sensor excitation frequencies () to project a time-varying magnetic field into a sensing area on the surface of the target material, inducing eddy currents within the target material. The inductive sensor can be characterized by a sensor impedance Z() as a function of the sensor excitation frequency (), and the resulting induced eddy currents. Multiple sensor impedance Zs() measurements, at the multiple sensor excitation frequencies (), can be determined, which represent electromagnetic properties of the target material (such as permittivity , permeability , and resistivity ), based on the induced eddy currents. The multiple sensor excitation frequencies (), and corresponding multiple sensor impedance Zs() measurements, can be selected for particular target penetration depths.

High voltage device with multi-electrode control
Patent No. 10340252

Inventor(s): Michael D. Seeman (Palo Alto, CA), Sandeep R. Bahl (Palo Alto, CA)
Assignee(s): Texas Instruments Incorporated (Dallas, TX)
Law Firm: No Counsel
Application No., Date, Speed: 15947227 on 04/06/2018 (452 days app to issue)

Abstract: A high-voltage transistor (HVT) structure adapts a low-voltage transistor (LUT) to high-voltage environments. The HVT structure includes a drain node, a source node, a control gate, and a field electrode. The drain node and the source node define a conductive channel, in which mobilized charges are regulated by the control gate. While being isolated from the control gate, the field electrode is configured to spread the mobilized charges in response to a field voltage. The field electrode is structured and routed to prevent charge sharing with any one of the drain node, source node, or control gate. Advantageously, the isolated field electrode minimizes the capacitance of the control gate as well as the drain and source nodes, such that the HVT can switch with less power loss and a more robust performance in a high-voltage environment.

Flywheel energy storage device with induction torque transfer
Patent No. 10340768

Inventor(s): Raymond James Walsh (Dallas, TX)
Assignee(s): UNASSIGNED
Law Firm: Shaver Swanson, LLP (1 non-local offices)
Application No., Date, Speed: 15878236 on 01/23/2018 (525 days app to issue)

Abstract: A flywheel energy storage device includes the Halbach Motor/Generator with rolling biphasic coil control, continuously variable torque transfer via magnetic induction and a reluctance magnetic levitation system known as the Axial-Loading Magnetic Reluctance Device. Electric energy input turns the magnetically coupled rotors of the Halbach motor, and torque is transferred to a flywheel through a copper cylinder variably inserted between the Halbach magnet rotors. In idle mode, the energy is stored kinetically in the spinning flywheel, which is levitated by a permanent magnet bearing. Electric energy output is achieved by transferring torque from the flywheel through the copper cylinder to the rotors of the Halbach Generator by magnetic induction. Rolling biphasic motor control includes dividing Halbach motor coils into increments, then energizing groups of contiguous increments into virtual coils, which revolve in tandem with the magnet rotors so to achieve continuous and optimal torque.

Dynamic threshold selection for transient detection in a coverter
Patent No. 10340789

Inventor(s): Ryan Lee Wallace (Plainfield, IL)
Assignee(s): TEXAS INSTRUMENTS INCORPORATED (Dallas, TX)
Law Firm: No Counsel
Application No., Date, Speed: 15395655 on 12/30/2016 (914 days app to issue)

Abstract: A dynamic threshold determining circuit changes the threshold voltage used to determine when to inject additional energy to increase a power converter”s output voltage in response to a low voltage transient for the converter. By being able to change the threshold, finer control of the energy input for correcting transients is possible. In one implementation, the threshold is closer to the target voltage than a typical static threshold value used for transient correction, and the energy injected is smaller than that typically used for transient correction. Thus, the power converter will have a fast response to a transient but be less likely to overshoot the correction. Should the transient continue, the threshold can be changed to move further from the target value while an increased amount of energy is added so that the system can dynamically move to correct bigger transients.
