Cosm’s ‘Shared Reality’ Dome Opens at Grandscape Aug. 31 with College Football Kickoff

Cosm's 87-foot diameter, 12K-plus LED dome will make people feel like they're magically close to the action of live sports and artistic events—from college football and NBA games to Premier League matches, UFC fights, and more.

Cosm—an immersive entertainment venue that “seamlessly bridges the gap between virtual and physical realities” on an 87-foot diameter, 12K-plus LED dome—has announced an August 31 grand opening date for its venue at Grandscape in The Colony.

The 65,000-square-foot experiential venue will kick off its opening weekend with a slate of college football games presented in “immersive shared reality.” The College Football Kickoff features a triple-header of marquee Week 1 games including Clemson vs. Georgia Saturday at 11 a.m.; Texas A&M vs. Notre Dame Saturday at 6:30 p.m.; and USC vs. LSU Sunday at 6:30 p.m.

Starting September 11, Cosm will also be showing a shared-reality production of Cirque du Soleil’s critically acclaimed performance “O.”

Cosm aims to redefine the way people experience live sports, immersive art, and experiential entertainment “by merging state-of-the-art visuals with the energy of the crowd and an elevated food and beverage service.”

The venue’s live experiences will make fans feel like they’re almost magically close to the action of live College Football Playoff games, NBA games, championship UFC fights, and Premier League soccer matches—along with “the most sought-after events from around the globe.”

Cosm’s live sports offerings are the result of official partnerships with ESPN, TNT Sports, the NBA, NBC Sports, FOX Sports, and the UFC—with other expansions potentially on tap.

Beyond live sports, ticketed events at Cosm will also feature immersive art experiences from members of the Cosm Studios Creator Program, including award-winning new media artist Nancy Baker Cahill; filmmaker, director, and co-founder of Planetary Collective Guy Reid; and acclaimed composer and new media artist Ricardo Romaneiro.

Other ticketed events will include U.S. Open tennis matches, Premier League soccer matches, and other college football games throughout the month of September.

Premier League matches will include Manchester United vs. Liverpool on September 1 and Tottenham vs. Arsenal on September 15.

Headquartered in L.A.—but steeped in Dallas DNA

Cosm Dallas at Grandscape is the company’s second venue, following the debut earlier this summer of Cosm’s Hollywood Park venue in Los Angeles.

Headquartered in L.A, Cosm has deep Dallas ties. The company was founded in 2020 by Dallas-based Mirasol Capital through a series of acquisitions of businesses in spatial computing, specialty design, engineering, and immersive video production. Cosm has an office at Dallas’ Old Parkland campus, where Mirasol is headquartered.

Steven Winn, Mirasol Capital’s CEO and majority owner of Cosm, first teased the announcement of the Grandscape venue in 2022 at a Venture Dallas event.

Winn founded Richardson-based RealPage, which sold to Thoma Bravo in 2021 for more than $10 billion. At the Venture Dallas event, he said his relationship with Cosm President and CEO Jeb Terry evolved from both attending a wedding in San Diego.

“One of my son’s friends, Jeb Terry, was at the wedding,” Winn said at the Venture Dallas event. “Jeb’s an ex-NFL football player and had started a streaming broadcast company that he sold to Fox Sports. I talked to Jeb and we began to talk about the potential of immersive entertainment and new forms of entertainment.”

“We started to envision what would this look like if we converted it to LED so you could see it in the day, and it was much clearer, and we rotated the dome on each side,” Winn said at the Venture Dallas event. “We then believed that we could put you in the front seat of a live-streamed NFL, NBA, UFC, European soccer, cricket, and you couldn’t tell you weren’t there.”

Winn said that led to buying the largest planetarium company in the world because “we were intrigued with the dome.”

He said the visitors had to view the projection map in the dark, which wasn’t good.

“Dallas and North Texas are in Cosm’s DNA,” Cosm CEO and President Jeb Terry said in 2022. “Not only is the area experiencing explosive growth, but I’m from Dallas and have family there. We’ve always seen a North Texas location as a core anchor for our business. There is an incredible opportunity to grow alongside The Colony community, and we’re proud to call Grandscape ‘home’ to our second venue.”

Tickets to Cosm’s Grandscape events can be purchased now on Cosm.com or via Cosm’s app, available to download in the App Store and on the Google Play Store.
