Texas’ Only Honoree, Galleria Dallas Wins Three 2022 International Shopping Center Awards

The ICSC MAXIs recognize innovation and creativity in retail marketing. Galleria Dallas took home the Gold for its Instagram playground experience POP!, along with two other awards.

Of the 59 awards presented this year, the Galleria was the only Texas shopping center honored.

Frisco’s New Firefly Park Development Gets Dream Hotel As Anchor

Slated to break ground next year, Firefly Park will add "a significantly different, cool vibe to Frisco," says the city's mayor. Developer Kyle Wilks of Wilks Development hired Amsterdam-based UNStudio to develop the master plan in collaboration with Sasaki Associates.

That European influence is showing up in the 230-acre project's walkable, park-laden layout—and in the architecture's future-forward look. The Dream Hotel will be designed with hints of the region, with a design philosophy “both surreal and contemporarily chic."

Dallas-based WorkSuites is opening two new coworking facilities in the Atlanta area, added to the 21 locations it now operates in North Texas and metro Houston. Founder and CEO Flip Howard says more locations are coming in the Atlanta region, and WorkSuites is looking for locations in Phoenix, too. “Everybody knows that the future of office is flex,” he told Dallas Innovates. “Every (location) that we've opened has filled up faster than they used to.”

Noted sports architect HKS is designing a "world-class" Major League Cricket stadium in Grand Prairie. Its 85 Dallas-based employees have a semi-open seating plan, outdoor decks for collaborating and socializing, and "wellness rooms" for nursing babies or chilling out. And oh yes—lots of high-tech business features, too.

Designed by HKS Architects, the new HQ will be 100% renewable energy-powered, the company says.
