Local Innovators, Fastest-Growing Company Honored at Annual Tech Titan Awards Gala

Some of the top players in the North Texas technology ecosystem were honored Thursday at the annual Tech Titans awards gala. Fujitsu North America CEO Doug Moore was inducted into the Tech Titans Hall of Fame, and Charlie Vogt, CEO of telecommunications firm DZS, won the Corporate CEO Award. The fastest-growing tech company award went to Fort Worth's TimelyMD. "The need to come together as an industry, reconnect with friends, and build new business connections were really what this year’s awards gala was all about," said Tech Titans' Paul Bendel. Irving’s Flowserve Partners with Chart Industries on Hydrogen as Alternate Fuel Source

The two companies will partner on liquid hydrogen fueling pumps for more than 100 systems planned to be put into operation in California, Australia, and South Korea over the next five years. The pumps will be used in Chart's liquid hydrogen fuel station equipment for fuel cell vehicles. Flowserve CEO R. Scott Rowe says the partnership will "support the development and commercialization of hydrogen as an energy source to build a better, brighter world for everyone."

EV Charging Tech Firm Wallbox Opens its First U.S. Manufacturing Facility in Arlington
The $70 million, 130,000-square-foot Arlington manufacturing facility will initially produce Wallbox's Pulsar Plus smart home EV charger. Next year, production will begin on the company's Hypernova EV chargers, which can add up to 100 miles of range in five minutes. “Today only 3% of the chargers required globally for the next decade have been installed," says Enric Asunción, CEO of Wallbox. "Bringing Wallbox’s manufacturing capabilities to the U.S. significantly bolsters our ability to meet U.S. needs, deliver to public funding programs, and drive the energy transition.”

Dallas-based Axxess empowers healthcare in the home with a suite of enterprise software solutions that help companies streamline their operations and grow their organizations. And now it's doing that with a new status. Writing on LinkedIn last week, Olajide announced that Axxess' software has earned product certification from the Accredited Commission for Health Care with "zero deficiencies." Dallas-based NaturalShrimp doesn't need to set sail for its Pacific white shrimp—it farm-raises them at large production facilities outside San Antonio and in Iowa, using proprietary aquaculture technology that can produce a “crop” of shrimp weekly. With an even bigger facility in Florida on the way, NaturalShrimp is set to hit the Nasdaq via a SPAC merger that could net it $105M in cash. Its CEO says the move has "the potential to significantly accelerate our efforts for commercialization and the ramp up of production of our fresh, land-based gourmet-grade shrimp at the largest indoor farming facilities in the U.S."

Tuning Up: Frisco-Based Music Audience Exchange–aka MAX–Raises Series B Funding To Expand

Frisco-based MAX, a tech marketing company that powers brand and music partnerships, raised $6 million in 2017. A new round led by Interlock Partners will help fund the development of SET.Live. The new platform lets artists engage with fans at live shows while creating unique sponsorable assets for brands like Ford, McDonald's, and more.

“This investment allows MAX to continue fulfilling its mission to automate and digitize artist sponsorships and create a new marketplace for the creator economy,” says CEO and founder Nathan Hanks.

Dallas Finance Exec Named President of Swiss-Based ORCA AG

Charmaine Tang, who most recently was a senior client strategist at BNY Mellon, is the first "boots on the ground" in the U.S. for Zurich-based ORCA AG. Founded in 2017, the Swiss software and services firm offers an SaaS platform with solutions from wealth structuring to tax, compliance, succession planning, and more. "My #1 focus is on growing the U.S. market," Tang told Dallas Innovates, noting that ORCA views North Texas "as a super high-growth metro market" for her company's software and services.

Taysha Gene Therapies Lands $50M Investment from Japanese Firm to Fight Rare Diseases

The investment by Tokyo-based Astellas Pharma gives it a 15% stake in Taysha and positions it to potentially purchase the company, according to the Dallas Morning News. The Dallas-based biotech firm's pipeline includes the "first-and-only" gene therapy in clinical development for Rett syndrome and a Phase 1/2 development of a treatment for an inherited nervous system disorder that's awaiting regulatory feedback.

“We believe this investment not only further validates the potential of our technology platform, but also reinforces the therapeutic and market opportunity of our two lead clinical assets,” Founder and CEO R.A. Session II says.

Catalyze Dallas Launches New Portfolio Company to ‘Democratize and Accelerate Bioinformatics’

Lithium Ion Battery Recycling Production Line Opens in McKinney, Aims to Bolster Texas Supply Chain

McKinney's Wistron GreenTech has partnered with New Jersey-based Princeton NuEnergy on a lithium-Ion battery direct recycling pilot production line, which officially opened in McKinney today. PNE founder Dr. Yan Chao calls it a "powerful next step" in a vision for covering a nationwide close-loop recycling supply chain for the batteries.

The line will use PNE's patented process to recycle everything from phone batteries to full EV battery packs.
