India-based Tata Consultancy Services Expands in Plano

Another India-based IT services company has announced that it will have a greater presence in Plano.

Mumbai-based Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) announced Thursday it added 200 new employees to its Plano operations as part of an agreement with Transamerica to transform the administration of that company’s U.S. insurance and annuity business lines.

Tata’s expansion comes after Wipro’s recent announcement that it had opened a cybersecurity center and a hub for advanced analytics in Plano. Wipro is based in Bengaluru, India.

Transamerica is a Cedar Rapids, Iowa-based holding company for various life insurance companies and investment firms in the U.S.

In a release, Tata said that it will occupy several floors of Transamerica’s building at 2700 W. Plano Parkway, under a mutiyear agreement to enhance Transamerica’s digital capabilities, simplify service of than 10 million policies into a modern integrated platform, and drive growth opportunites via customer service.

TCS said that more than 200 former employees of Transamerica work for it in Plano.

Greg Abbott said in a release. “This expansion presents enormous opportunity for the community and will create jobs for hardworking Texans. I thank TCS for their investment and welcome them to Plano as they continue their great success.”

Tata said it has more than 3,500 employees in Texas and that the state is a key U.S. hub for the company.

TATA PARTNERS WITH DISD ON TECH EDUCATION

TCS also plans to add Plano to its flagship goIT education programs already operating in Dallas, San Antonio, Houston, and Austin.

The program is intended to inspire young people from underserved sectors of the community into diverse technology careers.

Tata announced in October a partnership with the Dallas ISD for its Ignite My Future in School program that offers free professional development and resources for teachers to integrate into core subjects. The program has trained more than 100 Dallas-based educators and engaged more than 2,300 student, according to TCS.

TCS is part of India’s largest conglomerate, Tata Group, and it employees more than 387,000 consultant in 55 countries, according to a report in Quartz.

Between 2012 and 2016, TCS ranked among the top two job creators in the U.S. IT services sector by recruiting more than 12,500 workers in the country and having an American employee growth rate during that period of 57 percent. That rate topped all other employers in the tech sector, Quartz said.
