Addison-based Bouncie has released a new app feature that it said will help drivers be smarter and safer during a trip by knowing how fast they are traveling at various points in the journey.

Called Speed Bands, the feature displays color-coded indicators that show the full range of speeds a vehicle travels during trips.

“Bounce’s new Speed Bands feature shows our users how fast a vehicle was traveling through specific areas, making it easier to have a conversation about following the posted speed limits on specific routes,” Bouncie President Patrick DeMarco told Dallas Innovates.

The Bouncie device and app were introduced last year by the startup to put information about driving habits, locations, and diagnostics at the touch of a button for drivers.

SPEED BANDS ALLOW FOR EASIER CONVERSATIONS ABOUT DRIVING HABITS

Speed Bands allow a driver to look at any past trip and see what speeds were attained based on adjusted settings.

Bouncie, a division of Dallas-based Tail Light LLC, said, for example, that parents concerned about a teen driver’s speeds through a residential neighborhood or school zones could see how fast the teenager was driving through those areas. That would make it easier to talk with them about complying with posted speeds on specific routes.

The colors display on the Trip Map in the Bouncie app and show how fast a vehicle was going during any part of a trip. For example, Bouncie said, when a vehicle travels 30-40 mph, that portion could highlight in blue, while 40-50 mph can show as red.

The device is compatible with almost all vehicles manufactured in the past 20 years, and the smartphone app is available on iOS and Android platforms, according to Bouncie.
