Application of self-seal and adhesive strips to asphalt shingles
Patent No. 9795981

Inventor(s): James A. Svec (Kearny, NJ)
Assignee(s): Building Materials Investment Corporation (Dallas)
Law Firm: Womble Carlyle Sandridge Rice LLP (16 non-local offices)
Application No., Date, Speed: 14824646 on 08/12/2015 (804 days app to issue)

Abstract: An apparatus is disclosed for applying a strip of sealant to a web of roofing shingle stock as the web moves along a processing path. The apparatus includes an applicator wheel disposed on one side of the processing path and having a peripheral surface. The applicator wheel is rotatably mounted and oriented such that rotation of the applicator wheel moves the peripheral surface of the applicator wheel toward, adjacent to, and then away from the moving web of shingle stock. A nozzle preferably in the form of a slot die is disposed adjacent to the peripheral surface of the applicator wheel. A source of sealant is supplied and a delivery system is configured to deliver the sealant from the source of the sealant to the slot die under a predetermined pressure. The slot die and delivery system are configured to project a stream of sealant toward and onto the peripheral surface of the applicator wheel at a predetermined speed. This applies a coating of sealant to the peripheral surface of the applicator wheel. The moving web of roofing shingle stock engages the sealant on the peripheral surface of the applicator wheel as the peripheral surface moves adjacent to the web. This, in turn, draws sealant from the peripheral surface of the applicator and onto the web of roofing shingle stock thereby applying the strip of sealant to the web.

Application No., Date, Speed: 14912199 on 08/12/2014 (1169 days app to issue)

Abstract: The present disclosure relates to a method in materials testing to automatically locate the center of a feature on or in an object using the off-axis force feedback of a loadcell. In this disclosure, either a simplified model of the product or device being tested, or the product itself, is placed under the loadcell probe with the feature of interest roughly aligned under the probe tip. The probe is driven down into the feature. The product is automatically positioned relative to the probe in the x-direction until the side of the probe contacts the side of the feature. Contact is determined by monitoring the force feedback from the loadcell. When the vertical force from the side-load surpasses a pre-determined setpoint, contact is assumed and the value of the x-position of the product with respect to the probe is recorded. The product is then repositioned in the opposite direction in the x-axis to record the touch load on the other side. The center is then calculated as the average of the x values. The process is repeated along the y-axis. This data is then used to calculate the center of the feature and the product can be positioned at this location so that the probe is centered over the center thereof.

Abstract: A memory film layer is formed in a memory opening through an alternating stack of first material layers and second material layers. A sacrificial material layer is deposited on the memory film layer. Horizontal portions of the sacrificial material layer and the memory film layer at the bottom of the memory opening is removed by an anisotropic etch to expose a substrate underlying the memory opening, while vertical portions of the sacrificial material layer protect vertical portions of the memory film layer. After removal of the sacrificial material layer selective to the memory film, a doped semiconductor material layer can be formed directly on the exposed material in the memory opening and on the memory film as a single material layer to form a semiconductor channel of a memory device.

Three-dimensional integration schemes for reducing fluorine-induced electrical shorts
Patent No. 9799671

Inventor(s): Jayavel Pachamuthu (San Jose, CA), Johann Alsmeier (San Jose, CA), Matthias Baenninger (Menlo Park, CA), Stephen Shi (Milpitas, CA)
Assignee(s): SANDISK TECHNOLOGIES LLC (Plano)
Law Firm: The Marbury Law Group PLLC (3 non-local offices)

Abstract: Dielectric degradation and electrical shorts due to fluorine radical generation from metallic electrically conductive lines in a three-dimensional memory device can be reduced by forming composite electrically conductive layers and/or using of a metal oxide material for an insulating spacer for backside contact trenches. Each composite electrically conductive layer includes a doped semiconductor material portion in proximity to memory stack structures and a metallic material portion in proximity to a backside contact trench. Fluorine generated from the metallic material layers can escape readily through the backside contact trench. The semiconductor material portions can reduce mechanical stress. Alternatively or additionally, a dielectric metal oxide can be employed as an insulating spacer on the sidewalls of the backside contact trench, thereby blocking a diffusion path for fluorine radicals generated from the metallic material of the electrically conductive layers, and preventing electrical shorts between electrically conductive layers and/or a backside contact via structure.

Abstract: A semi-floating gate transistor is implemented as a vertical FET built on a silicon substrate, wherein the source, drain, and channel are vertically aligned, on top of one another. Current flow between the source and the drain is influenced by a control gate and a semi-floating gate. Front side contacts can be made to each one of the source, drain, and control gate terminals of the vertical semi-floating gate transistor. The vertical semi-floating gate FET further includes a vertical tunneling FET and a vertical diode. Fabrication of the vertical semi-floating gate FET is compatible with conventional CMOS manufacturing processes, including a replacement metal gate process. Low-power operation allows the vertical semi-floating gate FET to provide a high current density compared with conventional planar devices.

Assignee(s): E.F. Johnson Company (Irving)
Law Firm: Gardere Wynne Sewell LLP (Local + 1 other metros)
Application No., Date, Speed: 14815095 on 07/31/2015 (816 days app to issue)

Abstract: Disclosed is an interoperability gateway system that provides backup connection between a dispatch center and a Land Mobile Radio (LMR) system in the event the dispatch center is disconnected from the LMR system. In general, this may be accomplished by providing an RF link between the disconnected site and the interoperability gateway via a controller, or interoperability site network interface (ISNI), that is activated when the dispatch center is disconnected from the LMR system. The interoperability gateway provides the backup connection by allocating a control station for each channel available at the disconnected LMR system. When compared to conventional dispatch console backup schemes, the disclosed interoperability gateway system greatly reduces the equipment needed to provide dispatch console backup, thereby decreasing equipment and operation costs, and simplifying operation by providing a solution that is virtually transparent to the dispatcher.
