“This could be revolutionary.”

Portnoy was in Dallas over the weekend to catch the Texas-OU game and to do some of his “one bite reviews” of local pizza restaurants and the fried food offerings at the State Fair of Texas. But he ended up reviewing a different local business after he experienced “pillow hell” at the JW Marriott hotel in the Dallas Arts District. He’d gone to a local Mattress Firm to buy his own pillows before he found a nice note from the hotel in his room with new pillow options—including a selection from Dallas-based The Pillow Bar. His post about The Pillow Bar’s side sleeper pillow has since racked up over 1 million views on X.
The Pillow Bar—a small, women-owned business founded by Merrimac Dillon and led by president and majority owner Connie Babikian—sent a note along with its pillows that read, “We heard you were in desperate need of a good pillow and are here to help!”
At first, Portnoy was confused and thought The Pillow Bar was an actual bar that served drinks. Then he checked out the company’s pillows. The one that most grabbed his fancy was a side sleeper pillow with “Miss Peaches’ Papa” embroidered on the cover.
In his review video posted on X, Portnoy reads the instructions as if he’s deciphering an engineering code at a nuclear power plant. “How to sleep with the Dr. Mary Side Sleeper Pillow,” he reads aloud. “Put your head near one end of the pillow, place the other end in front of your body, hug it close, and place your arm on top of the pillow to keep your shoulder and neck supported.”
“I need someone to film me doing this,” Portnoy adds, lamenting that he’s alone in the room and there’s no one to film him making personal pillow history. “This could be revolutionary.”
