Today marks the opening day of Dwell with Dignity’s annual fall Thrift Studio popup, where luxury home furnishings and art are sold at “steeply discounted prices” to benefit Dwell with Dignity’s nonprofit mission: furnishing living spaces for families in need.

The event is free and open to the public and will be held through October 7th on Tuesdays-Saturdays from 10 am – 5 pm. 

Baldazo told D Magazine that this year’s popup has an exciting difference. Instead of roving around to a new site each fall, it’s now being held in a storefront at 1833 E. Levee Street in the Dallas Design District—a new home that Dwell with Dignity acquired last February to expand the reach of its services and offer smaller Thrift Studio pop-ups throughout the year. 

“The most exciting part is that we now have the space that we can work in year in and year out,” Baldazo—owner-decorator-stylist of Dallas-based Space Reinventor—told D. “And that just says to me that the organization is doing great things and growing, because they were able to buy a building and their own space. And that means that everything that we do is going directly to affect the lives of the people who need it.”

Ashley Sharp, executive director of Dwell with Dignity, says “it has always been our vision to establish a permanent location for Thrift Studio, allowing us to expand our programs and partnerships, and amplify our impact.”

“We cannot wait to welcome shoppers to our new location with a longer run date, incredible new sponsors like Amazon, a partnership with Crayola, and dynamic experiences,” Sharp added in a statement. “Last year we achieved our most successful Thrift Studio event yet, and we’re optimistic that the same spirit of generosity will grow so that we can continue to advance our mission and serve the community.”

This year, Thrift Studio is showcasing the talents of designers Angeline Guido, Charmaine Wynter, Joel Baldazo, Kristen Fegale, Noel Pittman, Terra McNutt, Roz Murphy, and Sari Moore. The designers worked with Benjamin Moore, this year’s Color Sponsor, to select paint colors that helped bring the vignettes to life. Gillea Allison leads as this year’s Thrift Studio Chair with Christine Allison serving as Honorary Chair.

Jarrod Oram is providing his artistic expertise as the Thrift Studio Art Chair, overseeing a curated collection of original artworks donated by local artists. Over 50 art pieces will be available for purchase during the pop-up. 

The nonprofit Dwell with Dignity provides interior design services to underrepresented communities and families, with a goal of bringing about positive change and dignity and altering the trajectory of those in need. Thrift Studio plays a crucial role in Dwell with Dignity’s mission, contributing one-third of operating revenue and “fostering stability, comfort, and pride.” Without the support of Thrift Studio, this vital and impactful work would not be possible, the nonprofit says.
