VR OFFERING IS LOCATED BETWEEN SECTIONS 9 AND 10
A new virtual reality experience takes Texas Rangers fans from the clubhouse to the batter’s box with walk-up music and cheering fans.
It’s the latest add-on to the Lowe’s Walkup Experience at Globe Life Park. The feature is free for fans and is located between sections 9 and 10 down the third-base line.
The Dallas Business Journal got a first-hand tour of the VR experience with some help from short stop Elvis Andrus.
Once in the box, participants see the pitcher wind up, throw, and then they swing for the fences.
Andrus told the DBJ that you can pretty much look anywhere, it perfectly recreates what it’s like being in the box at a Major League Baseball game. Of course, there’s no pressure of needing to get that clutch hit in the bottom of the ninth inning to win the game. That’s up to the imagination.
Virtual reality has enormous potential and many North Texas startups and larger companies are investing in it with the hope that the technology becomes mainstream and more affordable.
VR is different than the augmented reality of Pokemon Go where digital images are imposed on top of the real world when looking through the mobile device. VR uses goggles and imposes a completely new world in place of the real one.
