The University of Texas at Dallas has received more money for its cancer research program, the Dallas Public Library has also received money to fund projects, and Facebook adds a simpler way to plan events.
Professors at UT Dallas recently received $1.3 million in research grants to go toward their cancer studies. UT Dallas now has a total of $8.8 million in grants for cancer research, and counting. The university’s program focuses on improving chemotherapy treatments and reducing side effects of chemotherapy. UT Dallas has a full list of professors and awards they won here.
The Dallas Public Library was recently given a Knight News Challenge award. As part of the honor, the library received $150,000 to implement its winning project, “Storytellers Without Borders: Activating the Next Generation of Community Journalists Through Library Engagement.” The money will help fund journalism-centered workshops held at library branches around Dallas, beginning in September. These programs will be led by Dallas Morning News reporters, who will pass on their skills to high schoolers.
Facebook launched a new application on Monday, called Featured Events. Ten cities will have access to the event planning tab, including Dallas, and will cover more cities, pending success in the 10 cities that currently have the feature. Facebook users will be able to find events easier based on their likes and what friends are checking out.
